Mike Simpson Fine Art. I paint the people, places and things of small town, rural America. From the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains, to the towering grain silos of Kansas, the small adobe casa of New Mexico, the fishing boats in a marina on the Northern Pacific coast, the cowboys of Montana, the bewhiskered bikers of Sturgis or the girlsMIKE SIMPSON
The view from my studio offers some really great afternoon and evening skies. With the current state of draught here in Southwestern Colorado it's really nice to see some rain clouds forming and stormy skies.MIKE SIMPSON
The alleys of the old mining towns that dot the mountains of Colorado have a special character to them. This one is in Crested Butte, CO and was painted during the Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational.MIKE SIMPSON
We've been terribly dry here in Southwestern Colorado. Any sign of rain is a welcomed relief. Not to mention the ensuing clouds and storms make for some really dramatic skies.MIKE SIMPSON
Painted from my studio patio. I have wonderful views from the studio which often result in dramatic skies. Painting sells unframed.MIKE SIMPSON
These paintings, either done on location or in the studio, are of the captivating San Juan Mountain region of beautiful southwest Colorado including the old, quaint Victorian mining towns of Ouray, Lake City, Telluride, and Silverton.MIKE SIMPSON
Serenity. Zoom. Room. Oil on Panel. 12 x 9. Available. Summer in the Rockies, a lone cabin occupied with someone enjoying the serenity of nature. Contact The Artist About This Artwork. BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN It wasn’t that cold. Stepping out into the night, I walked by several motorhomes. I could hear their furnaces running. Back at my tent I crawled into my bag again, wrapped up in the wool blanket and noted that my pad was barely inflated. Nothing I could do about it nowunfortunately.

This Bell Tower is a very prominent architectural feature of Balboa Park in San Diego. I enjoyed a brief visit to the park and paintedthese on location.

One of the best things about traveling on a motorcycle is the people you meet. Sitting on the picnic table in the sunshine warming up, my hands wrapped around a cup of cowboy coffee I had just made, I was perusing the guide book on the Santa Fe Trail I had bought at Bent’sFt.

Yeah, I know. It's been awhile and a number of you have been asking about my welfare. The short of it all is that I'm fine. There was a bit of a set back that upset the apple cart this year but all is goodnow.

The San Miguel river flows near Telluride, Colorado, not far from where I live. It was a beautiful early spring day and my wife and I took a drive to Telluride for a smoked salmon eggs Benedict at the Floradora Saloon, the oldest continually operating saloon inTelluride.

Painted from the front door of my studio. We have been terribly dry here in Southwest Colorado and clouds in the sky offer hope. Not to mention a beautiful sunset. BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN I lay curled up tight in the fetal position in my sleeping bag in the tent trying to relax and embrace the warmth. The problem wasthere wasn’t much warmth. LEWIS AND MIKE'S CORP OF DISCOVERY Artist friend Lewis Williams and I have been out and about searching for the Old Spanish Trail. The project is in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management office of Rob Sweeten out of Salt Lake City,Utah.

With my painting kit of watercolor or oil paints and camera I travel the highways and byways seeking out the character of my subjects capturing the effect of light, shadow, shape and value. I get the information I need from roadside sketches or photographs and use those for more complex work back in my studio.RECENT WORK
