New connections (synapses) are made between THE FUNCTION OF SENSORY MEMORY Sensory memory provides the details and it is up to other parts of the brain to figure out what to do with them — that is the job of working memory, which processes the information and controls where it goes — either to short term or long-term memory. There are three main types of sensory memory: visual (iconic), auditory (echoic), and HOW TO MEMORIZE NUMBERS WITH MAJOR SYSTEM How to Memorize Numbers In order to memorize anything (names, numbers, cards or whatever) you need a picture or image for it. For example your brain won’t recall 17218 very easily but it would remember a woodpecker peck a duck’s head while wearing handcuffs. Your brain remembers pictures. So the first step in how to memorize numbers is to create pictures for numbers. Some DOES LISTENING TO CLASSICAL MUSIC IMPROVE MEMORY? Early in the 1990s an experiment known as “The Mozart Effect” was conducted that seemed to link listening to classical music to memory improvement. His body temperature reached a whopping 115.7 degrees, a world record, and he lived to tell about it. Doctors were astonished to see that the man survived and with no harm done to the brain. Willie Jones can be found in the Guiness Book of World Records for his record high temp. THE ABSENT-MINDED PROFESSOR SYNDROME Most of us have undergone “The Absent-Minded Professor” syndrome at one time or another. I recall one time being so engrossed in what I was working on that I dressed myself with my shirt inside out, and went around all day like that until someone pointed it out. It was embarrassing! This may be a mild case, but it does point out that even memory experts have an occasional memory slip. The DIFFERENCES BETWEEN VERTICAL AND LATERAL THINKING In our world we are governed by rules and structure, and there is a great deal of time spent developing them. We generally learn in sequence, and organize in the same type of order as most everyone else – like filing things according to name, subject or date so our lives are less cluttered and stressful. With the digital age it has become easier to organize information and retrieve it at PREFRONTAL CORTEX DAMAGE CAN LEAD TO VIOLENT BEHAVIOR Early damage to the prefrontal cortex of the brain, either through oxygen deprivation at birth or from brain injury as a young child, hinders the social and moral development of the child.
