This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of At Home for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine. It's officially my favorite time of the year, porch weather! Last year when we moved into our house, we were out on our screened in porch as much as possible. We watched movies, ate dinner almost every night, and played games out there. We even sat out there a little in the winter when the nights weren't too cold by a fire. But, ever since the nasty pollen season started, this space has been covered in layers and layers of yellow. We covered up the furniture and have been waiting until it stopped dropping. It seemed to stop so last weekend we had everything pressure washed and are finally … Read More Filed Under: decorating, renovation

VINTAGE WINTRY CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR8 Dec
I feel like I'm the last person blogger on the planet to reveal our Christmas home tour. I do have to pat myself on the back though. I did actually get our house decorated before Thanksgiving {yay}, but just got around to taking pictures of it all this past weekend. Better late than never, right? If you know me in real life, you know that I've been waiting for this for years. Literally. I bought Christmas decorations on sale 2 years ago the day after Christmas with this house in mind. It was like Christmas day getting to pull out all the decorations I've bought over the years and finally put them to use. So without further adieu, here's our official Christmas home tour. I decided … Read More Filed Under: Christmas DIY RUSTIC MODERN METAL CRAFTS16 Nov
I love to see people's dreams and goals come to life. Especially to dear friends who are so deserving. I met Laura at my first blogging conference, the first-ever Haven Conference. I went not knowing a soul and quickly bonded with her and a few other ladies. I was immediately drawn to her friendliness and sweet demeanor. Laura has come a long way since that first blog conference and has fulfilled many dreams along the way. One of which is writing her own book. She always comes up with the most creative and beautiful projects that I want to emulate and now she's put together some of her amazing creations into an amazing book, DIY Rustic Modern Metal Crafts. The book has … Read More Filed Under: blogging, decorating

FALL HOME TOUR {SIMPLISTIC FALL DECOR}15 Oct
Ever since we moved into our house, I've been looking forward to this time of the year: getting to decorate our house for fall and Christmas. This year my motto for seasonal decorating is 'simple.' For the past several years I've been decorating small rental places so my seasonal decor stash doesn't quite cover an entire house. I plan to build it up a little each year and not go overboard all at once. After all, the best sales on seasonal decor are after the season passes, so you better believe I'll stock up a little more in a month or so! But this year I'm actually really loving the simplicity. Our house isn't completely decorated yet, but it feels clean and simple and just a …Read More

THE IMPORTANCE OF DECORATING SLOWLY11 Aug
We've been living in our new house now for a little over 3 months. While the un-boxing and organizing is mostly behind us {besides the dreaded basement}, the decorating is moving slowly. While part of me is just ready to have the whole thing decorated and done, the other part of me is intentionally choosing to decorate slowly. This is a house we labored on for over a year and a half and a house we plan on spending many many years in. While it's tempting to go out to several home decor retail stores and buy a bunch of random stuff to fill the walls and spaces, that's not the way to create a home. Your home should be reflective of you and your family. It should be filledwith … Read More

OVERCOMING THE TRAP OF COMPARISON3 Aug
Comparison is the thief of joy.- Theodore Roosevelt We live in a day and age where we have a glimpse into everyone's lives. With Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram, we see first hand people's accomplishments, what clothes they are wearing, what their house looks like, what their babies are doing, and who they are dating. The friends we follow appear to have perfect lives. They have better, more fashionable clothes, are achieving amazing things, their lives are in perfect order, they are going on amazing dates, have more well behaved kids, and the list could go on. It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing our lives with the lives we 'see' others living through the lens of… Read More

MY LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH DIY {AND MY DIY MILK PAINTED BUFFET}23 Jul
Are you confused by my title? After all, a lot of what I showcase on the blog is diy projects, right? The truth is, I do sometimes have a love/hate relationship with diy projects. This diy milk paint buffet is the perfect example of this. This was a furniture piece my husband had in his bachelor pad. Not bad, actually really well made. But the black finish with faux distressed look just didn't go with the rest of what we had. Instead of selling it or tossing it to the curb, I thought, why not give it fresh coat of paint? Just a few fresh coats of paint would make it look all shiny and pretty and blend beautifully with the rest of our furnishings. The fact is, what you … Read MoreFiled Under: DIY
BOOKSHELF DECORATING:: A WORK IN PROGRESS14 Jul
All of our necessities have been unpacked in the house for several months now. However, all of our boxes with accessories and decor have been shoved in one of our bedrooms upstairs ever since we moved in. I had been waiting until I got most of the furniture settled to know where I even wanted things to go. A few weeks ago I finally took the time to unpack most of our boxes with decor and start sorting through accessories. It's almost like Christmas getting to open boxes full of things you haven't seen in over a year {most of my decor I left boxed up when I moved into our little rental knowing we weren't going to be there for too long}. We have built-in bookshelves in our living …Read More

Filed Under: home decor inspiration MY NEW DESIGN STYLE {AKA MY OBSESSION WITH FIXER UPPER}7 Jul
What is my decorating style? As someone who loves decorating and who has a home decor blog, that's probably something I should be able to articulate. I can walk into any store and tell you right away the things that I love and the things that I don't. But, how do I describe my taste? No clue. I think I would use words like rustic, vintage, neutral, transitional, and eclectic. But, does that really tell you much? Have you seen the show Fixer Upper on HGTV? If not, stop, do not pass go, immediately run to your tv and set your dvr to record this show. I'm serious. If you love interior design as much as I do, you will soon be as obsessed as I am. Every.single.room Joanna Gaines' …Read More

We're still alive and well. I'm sure many of you may be wondering why this space continues to be so quiet. After all, now that we've moved into our new house there should be a lot of blog-worthy content, right? I've honestly been wondering the same thing myself. The fact is, the words just haven't been there. I could just dump a lot of pretty pictures without any substance or content to the words that go along with it, but that hasn't felt right. If you are taking the time to come to this little slice of the blog world, I want it to be worth your time. I want to share stories, encouragement, and inspiration. I want you to leave getting something out of what you just read or … Read More Filed Under: home decor inspiration,

AROUND HERE:: MAY EDITION13 May
There's been a lot going on in our world these days, so since I haven't done an 'around here' post in a while I thought today would be the perfect time to fill you in on the details of what we've been up to. Starting: to feel normal again. The last few weeks have been non-stop with moving, unpacking, and subs still coming in to fix things. Things seem to be getting back to normal and I can finally just enjoy the house and this next phase of making it our home. Looking: forward to enjoying this space this summer and fall. We ordered some outdoor furniture that arrived a few weeks ago and we already broke it in this past weekend. Since this picture was taken, I've also added an outdoor … Read More Filed Under: around here* 1
