The old post office and phone booth were both situated near the crest of the hill on Torquay Road. The Landale family managed this business until 1871 when Charles Lamond obtained a slaughter licence and conducted a butchers shop, as well as the post office. His daughter Bella was a Registrar of Births and Deaths for over 50 years at thepost office.

It was a wattle and daub church built in 1859. It was replaced by the present bluestone church, designed by architect Robert Smith Tuffs. The Lutheran Cemetery in Anglesea Road Freshwater Creek was established about the same time as the Lutheran Church known as Waldkirck, meaning "the church in the forest". It was a wattle and daub church built in 1859. It was replaced by the present bluestone church, designed by architect Robert Smith Tuffs.CARL AUGUST RAU

William Roberts Batten, born in 1816 in Cornwall, was the son of Henry and Annie (née Roberts) Batten.He was married to Charlotte Lloyd (1825-1914). He was a sister of William Batten's wife Ann. James Noble, eldest son of William and Jane (née Gray) Noble, was born in 1821 in County Tyrone, Ireland. He was the first of his family to arrive in the colony in 1840 at the age of 19 on the ship Ferguson.He initially set up business as a grocer. BIBLE CHRISTIAN CHAPEL, MOUNT MORIAC Bible Christian Church, Mount Moriac. The Bible Christian Ebenezer Chapel, Sandlands Road (now Hendy Main Road), Mount Moriac was opened with a service on Christmas Day 1856. This was followed by a tea provided by the ladies at 5pm. The cost of the 24 x 18 feet building was £190 of which £120 had already been raised. The tea raised anextra £30.
