The first high power AM (Long Wave) station 5XX opened here on 27-July 1925 operating on a wavelength of 1600m., bringing good reception of the National Programme to 94% of the UK population. It was 135m (445ft.) tall and it brought the first independent television transmissions to the Yorkshire area. MB21 - THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY Westerglen is located in Stirlingshire, a few miles south-west of Falkirk. It is one of three stations to transmit BBC Radio 4 on 198kHz Long wave and also transmits BBC Radio Scotland, Absolute Radio and TalkSPORT on Medium Wave. It is one of the UK's earliest broadcast sites, entering public service way back on 12-Jun-1932. This plain design allowed maximum space for the news story, 17 lines in all. The current CEEFAX design (see below) has space for 15 lines per story, plus one line for the headline. Despite the widespread use of sub pages on CEEFAX, the news section has generally kept to single framepages.

When the fourth East Anglia Week of the Midland Region of the BBC is held this year from June 19th to 25th, the main base of operation will be Yarmouth, as in 1947, and MB21 - ETHER.NET - THE TELETEXT MUSEUM - CEEFAX This is a very early CEEFAX page, dating from January 1975 when the service was still classed as experimental. Only 30 pages were broadcast, 8 of which were test pages. This page has been reconstructed from a black and white photograph so I do not know if/what colours were used.
