Police to pay compensation to Loughinisland massacre journalists In August 2019 the High Court in Belfast quashed search warrants used to seize confidential journalistic material from the homes and offices of two public interest journalists, Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey. The police were investigating a leak of documents from the Office of the Police Ombudsman. These had been referred to by the journalists20.11.20
Mamadou Sakho settles libel case against World Anti-Doping Agency Premier League footballer, Mamadou Sakho, has settled his libel claim against the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) with a joint statement in open court. Mr Sakho had tested positive for taking a fat-burning substance called higenamine, but UEFA had acquitted him of taking a prohibited substance. Mr Sakho sued WADA for statements it had made to20.11.20
High Court rules in favour of Rebekah Vardy in first stage of libelcase
Mr Justice Warby has today ruled that the Instagram post published by Colleen Rooney was accusing Rebekah Vardy of secretly informing the Sun newspaper of Mrs Rooney’s personal information and was identifying her as the wrongdoer. He did not agree with Mrs Rooney’s argument that it merely accused Mrs Vardy as being one ofthe 20.11.20

Mr Frampton claimed breaches of contract and fiduciary duty after he terminated his nine year relationship with this former manager/promoter in August 2017. Mr McGuigan and his Cyclone Promotions 16.11.20 Professor Christian Tams to speak at Chinese University of Hong Kong: ‘The World Court at (nearly) 100: Reflections on a Century of International Adjudication’ Professor Christian Tams will speak at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s online seminar on the World Court’s role and record over a century of international adjudication, aiming to encourage reflection on the current state of inter-state dispute settlement and the evolving functions of international courts. The Permanent Court of International Justice became operational in 11.11.20 Claire Darwin and Nathan Roberts successful in Court of Appeal In Heskett v Secretary of State for Justice EWCA Civ 1487 the Court of Appeal considered when costs factors can constitute a legitimate aim for the purposes of justifying indirect discrimination. The appeal concerned changes to a pay progression policy which were held to have a disproportionate effect on younger employees. The Employment Tribunal 30.10.20 High Court dismisses “Steele dossier” libel claim The claimants, a Russian businessman and one of his tech companies, were identified in an intelligence memorandum prepared by Christopher Steele in December 2016. It suggested that they were involved in Russian hacking of the Democrats in the November 2016 US presidential election. The memo had been provided by Mr Steele to the late Senator29.10.20
Equality and Human Rights Commission publishes report on Antisemitismin the Labour Party
The Equality and Human Rights Commission has today published the report of its investigation into antisemitism in the Labour Party. The report found unlawful acts of discrimination and harassment. The two Cambridge graduates were fatally stabbed by convicted terrorist Usman Khan whilst attending a prisoner rehabilitation event.
