4 MAJOR BENEFITS OF INQUIRY LESSONS & HOW TO USE THEM TO 1. Inquiry enhances independent problem solving skills. Inquiry-based learning teaches students how to find patterns, figure out properties, and discover new rules of mathematics. They slowly learn how their brain actually progresses through the idea to get them from "lost" to "ohhhhh, I see what the pattern is." CROSS - CURRICULAR LEARNING IN MIDDLE SCHOOL: INTEGRATING We make it easy for teachers to connect the subject areas by planning and developing cross-curricular units, lessons, and skill packs for grades 6-8. All you have to do is print and integrate! Check out all of the details and get the material here!!! This team and our materials make integrating a breeze. THE VAN HIELE STUDENT DEVELOPMENT LEVELS FOR GEOMETRY LEARNERS According to John Van Del Walle, students should be able to “work with abstract statements about geometric properties and make conclusions more on logic than intuition.”. Level 4: Rigor. Finally, students will reach the last level of learning geometric reasoning. DIGITAL VS. PAPER IN MATH CLASS The best model is to “blend” learning - combine tech with hands on or paper-based teaching. Students will get the most out of a lesson if tech is used only when it enhances the lesson, not dominates it. Practicing concepts by hand on paper is irreplaceable in the mathclassroom.

Hi Meredith, Yes, they can note some of the basics by discovering for themselves. For example, with finding a derivative, it may be tricky for them to discover chain rule themselves, but they can certainly explore some sample graphs to reach the conclusions that each time they take a derivative (or even just find slopes and go through 1st and 2nd derivative) that the exponents decrease.
