An orthoconic cephalopod (Armenoceras?) near the Planetarium. Those of us who live in Winnipeg know that fossils are never far away. Learn what was happening on the ground in May and June of 1919, explore different perspectives, and discover what the Strike reveals about divisions insociety.

HBC Collection. In 1994, the Hudson’s Bay Company, one of the world’s oldest surviving corporations, donated its artifact collection to The Manitoba Museum. The HBC began to acquire historical objects for a new museum in Winnipeg in 1920. Over the years, the holdings grew from a INUIT: PEOPLE OF THE NORTH Suitable for Grades: 2-6. Students will learn about the resourcefulness of Inuit communities and their use of skin, stone, bone, and snow. We will investigate artifacts such as the ulu, kudlik, and bow drill, and then take a live virtual tour into the Arctic and Subarctic Gallery. NONSUCH GALLERY
The Nonsuch replica, seen in the Gallery, was built in England in 1968 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Hudson’s Bay Company. Built using hand tools of the 17th century it is considered one of the finest replicas in the world, and sailed 14,000 kilometres of salt and fresh water before finding her home at the Manitoba Museum in 1974. The Manitoba Museum is located on Treaty 1 land, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. These lands, occupied for thousands of years, are the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, and Nakota Nations. The Museum is committed to collaborating with all Indigenous peoples of this province including the Dakota, Anishininiwak, Dene,and Inuit.
