My tutorials aim to be affordable, at home and easy ways to learn new things, stay creative and not break the bank! STUNNING SILK ECO PRINTING Step #1: Preparing the silk fabric. Silk is known as a protein fibre since it made by animals; silk worm. Protein fibres are easier to take dye and printing so they perform quite well with just a dip (at least 30 minutes) in vinegar water (about a 1 : 3 ratio water to vinegar). TIPS AND TRICKS FOR CONCRETE CRAFTING Sand Topping Mix. Sand Topping Mix is also one of my favourites. It is a simple mix of portland cement and sand. This inexpensive mix is meant to be used at less than 2″ thickness so it was perfect for the STEPPING STONES which were my first concrete adventure many years ago. They still grace my garden and are aging nicely. COMPARE CONCRETE MIXES FOR CRAFTING Quikrete Fastset All-crete: Different brands offer similar products. Since entering the Quikrete contest I wanted to use a Quikrete product that compared to the RapidSet Cementall. I find this mix is almost exactly like it. It does seem like it comes under a few different names; Dual Purpose Grout & Structural Repair, Fastset Repair Mortar and Quikrete Fastset All-Crete.ECO PRINTING COTTON
Step #4 Tie the Bundle. To keep the fabric tight to the leaves, wrap at regular intervals quite tightly. As an extra measure you may wrap the entire roll in a foil or plastic. This will keep the moisture in and not let more in. Each slight variation may effect the resultslightly as well.
CONCRETE GARDEN ORBS The Portland cement is the ‘active’ part of most concrete mixes. The mixes do however also contain gravel and sand. In this recipe the sand and gravel is replaced by the fibrous yarn or fleece. MAKE YOUR OWN MOLD FOR CONCRETE PART 1 USING SILICONE AND You will need: pure silicone caulking like this (make sure it isn’t latex); 1 box of corn starch; rubber/latex gloves; a ‘non-precious’ bowl; vaseline (as a mold release) a ‘critter’ to use as the master form (or make your own); Since I have a weakness for birds, I was happy to find this fellow at a dollar store, not toolarge or too small.
CARRIER BLANKETS IN ECO PRINTING These carrier blankets can be dipped or soaked in a natural dye and give quite a different effect than the use of the iron blanket. Another way to use the carrier blanket is to soak it in some form of a tannin. The receptive print fabric would then be dipped/soaked in iron. Generally the big stem area is thicker due to THE MYSTERIOUS IRON BLANKET What is the Iron Blanket? I get that question quite often. It is a carrier blanket that brings iron to the fabric that you are printing on. Carriers are pieces of cotton fabric or similar material (even paper towels) that will absorb the liquid solution that you’d like to combine into your combination of colour dyes and mordants and in this case it brings the iron component. THE ONE WOMAN GARDEN MAKEOVER This is the way the property came; basically the way most people design. Small straight borders, dull design and monster tree. The concrete mix should be mixed to more of a fluid consistency so that you can ‘massage’ the mix into the fibres. And here again is the issue. To be able to roll it on something that long I used a flexible hose that allowed a steel rod (old curtain rod) inserted inside to keep it straight during bundling.. Since this method uses the contact of the previously Myrobalan dyed fabric to the Iron Blanket I also needed a large ROCK AND CONCRETE GEODE ORB PLANTERS Rock and Concrete Orbs. glass stones, rocks, broken tempered glass. glue gun and glue sticks. 5-minute Epoxy. stir sticks. I would love to find a huge geode or agate in nature but my chances are quite slim; so I make my Rock and Concrete Geodes as natural as I can! Plan the placement and colours of the ‘crystals’ to mimic nature.
