ARREST trial . With funding from the British Heart Foundation and in collaboration with King’s College London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and St Thomas’s hospital, we are currently undertaking the ARREST trial; a study that will help paramedics and doctors decide the best treatment for patients who have a cardiac arrest outside of hospital.OUR TRAINING
Our training. We regularly take part in training exercises, often with our emergency service colleagues, to test our plans for handling a major incident. Our Emergency Bed Service helps NHS healthcare professionals find hospital beds for seriously ill patients. We arrange for around 10,000 patients to be admitted to hospital or transferred between hospitals every year. We also provide a number of other services. Over two million Londoners experience poor mental health every year, and our mental health team of specially trained clinicians provide expert and compassionate care and advice to the around 14,000 calls related to mental ill-health we receive every month. The London Ambulance Service has a duty of care to ensure that a patient’s personal property is secured at the point of the incident and safely transported, with the patient, to the hospital. We place items in a specially designed patient property bag, which enables us to track the items after the handover of care EMERGENCY RESPONDERS Emergency Responders operate in charity-funded blue light vehicles and work under London Ambulance Service management and policies. We currently have nearly 150 volunteers in our Emergency Responder team. In 2020 they did 2,422 shifts which amounted to 28,868 volunteer hours and attended nearly 9,000 emergency calls. NEW APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME HELPS MAKE BECOMING A PARAMEDIC The new apprenticeship programme runs alongside the already successful Associate Ambulance Practitioner apprenticeship, which is open to external applicants and is a route to becoming an EAC without any prior medical qualifications. Nicolas De Santis, a tech entrepreneur, was working at home in his study when he started to feel slight discomfort in his chest which he brushed off as an infection or bad cold. Fortunately for Nicolas his daughter, Alaia, 22, was also at home that day in EMERGENCY RESPONDERS Emergency Responders operate in charity-funded blue light vehicles and work under London Ambulance Service management and policies. We currently have nearly 150 volunteers in our Emergency Responder team. In 2020 they did 2,422 shifts which amounted to 28,868 volunteer hours and attended nearly 9,000 emergency calls. PARAMEDIC SCIENCE DEGREES Full-time degrees. University of Hertfordshire BSc (Hons) This degree runs over three academic years. On completion of the course you will attain a BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science and will be eligible to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as aparamedic.

LONDON AMBULANCE SERVICE PAYS TRIBUTE TO THREE OF OUR STAFF WHO HAVEPASSED AWAY
The chief executive of London Ambulance Service has paid tribute to three members of our staff who have tragically passed away recently. Garrett Emmerson said: “Everyone at our Service is devastated at the heart-breaking news that three of our staff have tragically passed away recently. “These three members of our team were all well-known and loved and will be hugely missed by their colleagues and all of us. “My thoughts and deepest condolences and those of everyone at the Service are with their loved ones and colleagues at this incrediblydifficult time.â€
