LIVING WILDERNESS

It took him many more years to discover his passion for photography. Growing up, Kevin went on many outings with his parents to Pacific Northwest parks. The flames were only a fraction of a second behind, however. The mice dove headfirst into the nearest cone, making it only about halfway in before the fir tree had to snap the cones shut to provide LIVING WILDERNESS: THE STORY BEHIND "FIERY SUNRISE, MOUNT I captured this image — one of my most popular — on my first attempt, but I certainly wouldn't call it a lucky shot. It required getting up hours before sunrise, finding my way to the lake in the dark, and waiting for more than a half-hour on the frozen ground for the sun to finally clear the horizon. LIVING WILDERNESS: AF SETTINGS FOR BIRDS IN FLIGHT WITH C.fn III-8 AF expansion with selected point. I set this to 2, “surrounding AF points.”. When you’re tracking a bird (or anything else) this setting tells the camera whether or not it can use AF points besides the one you selected to help with tracking. The AF point expansion is handy, because it is incredibly hard to keep onesingle AF

Image stabilization technology has also improved over the past decade and a half. The rule of thumb is that for sharp images from a handheld lens, you need to shoot at a shutter speed that is the reciprocal of the focal length or faster. LIVING WILDERNESS: REVISITING THE ALPINE LAKES WILDERNESS One of the places that connected the dots for me was the Alpine Lakes Wilderness of Washington state. The Alpine Lakes Wilderness protects more than 400,000 acres of craggy peaks, mountain lakes and forests in Washington’s Central Cascades — an area that stretches between two busy mountain passes. Nature Photography by Kevin Ebi INSPIRING PHOTOGRAPHY Nature photographer Kevin Ebi (view his full bio here ) fell in love with the wilderness as a small child during outings to national parks with his family. Now, he uses his images to help people experience the wonders of nature and inspire them to take action to protect the environment. THAT BRINGS THE WILDERNESS TO LIFE Publicatons including National Geographic, Smithsonian, BBC Earth and Audubon have used his images to tell wilderness stories. Fine-art prints of his nature images are in public and private collections, including Mount Rainier National Park, Andrews Air Force Base, and the Washington State Convention Center. Two U.S. Postal Service "Forever" stamps also feature his work. AND HELPS THE ENVIRONMENT Kevin Ebi led "Land Almost Lost," an effort to preserve U.S. National Monuments that were threatened with delisting.
