Destinations, Outdoor Adventures & Hidden Gems. Hi, I’m Kasha and welcome to my travel blog! I’m a London-based travel writer and yoga teacher who loves sharing my adventures around the world. LONDON: GREEN PARK TO HYDE PARK Here’s the proof, as seen on our walk. Green Park is an interesting place. Devoid of lakes and other attractive features, this patch of green bordering Buckingham Palace was once home to highway bandits and was the site of an assassination attempt on Queen Victoria in 1840. The latter queen was fond of recreational visits to the park, and it PART 6: ROMAN VILLAS AND EVIL PEBBLES Read part 5 here.. We woke up bright and early on our first real day in Paphos and wandered downstairs for breakfast. The breakfast buffet offered at Agapinor Hotel isn’t anything to write home about, and I found myself switching to the cereal option vs the “hot” choices for the next few days.. The day looked like it was going to be a scorcher, so we donned our dresses and readied KYOTO GARDEN, A TRANQUIL SPOT IN CENTRAL LONDON Instead, Kyoto Garden is intended to be a site of contemplation and tranquility – right in the heart of central London. We took our time wandering the small garden. The upkeep is meticulous, where not even a blade of grass seems out of place. Along the path, we came across a mini waterfall and, a little further away, some peacocks, which roam THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO A WEEKEND IN DERBY On the banks of the Derwent River (and not far from Derby Cathedral), you can find Derby’s Silk Mill, claimed by many to be one of the birthplaces of the revolution, which saw a move away from making objects by hand to factory-led mass production. The Silk Mill, which had its beginnings as Lombe’s Mill, was founded in 1717. WAIHEKE ON WHEELS: A CYCLING TOUR OF THE ISLAND Exploring Whakanewha Regional Park. If you’re a fellow hiking enthusiast, Whakanewha Regional Park is a must on your cycling itinerary. We cycled there at a leisurely pace in about 40 minutes, leaving our bikes at the Sculpture Park entrance. Since there are low theft levels on Waiheke Island, we left our bikes unlocked as pereCyclesNZ’s
LONDON: CHARLES DICKENS HOUSE MUSEUM As a weak excuse, I’m going with the fact that I was going through all of London’s free offerings first. It costs £8 for adults to go into the Charles Dickens House Museum.. Charles Dickens lived at 48 Doughty Street between 1837 and 1839, and he wrote Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickelby during his time here. He moved here with his young family, and two of his ten (yes – ten!) children EXPLORING CANTABRIA: THE BISON OF ALTAMIRA CAVE A fallen tree disturbed the rocks at the cave’s entrance, and it was Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola who found Altamira in 1879. Or, rather, it was his eight-year-old daughter who first spotted the exact thing that makes the cave so famous. Maria looked up towards the ceiling of the cave, and spotted a polychrome painting of a bull-like animal. 28 PHOTOS THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND New Zealand was the very first stop on our big trip, a trip that also took us to Australia, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and South Africa over the course of five months.. The first month of that trip was truly unforgettable. We lived in our little campervans, which we nicknamed Honey and Poppet respectively, spending our weeks exploring New Zealand’s North and South Islands. HUNTING DOWN ROMAN RUINS IN BUDAPEST As mentioned, Aquincum is a fair way out of central Budapest, located in an area called Obuda. To get there, hop on the underground to Batthyany ter, and then catch the HEV. The latter will take you all the way to Aquincum (and, helpfully, the stop you need carries the same name). The journey takes about 20 minutes. CAPITAL RING WALK: CRYSTAL PALACE TO STREATHAM COMMON This mansion dates back to the 1840s and is a Grade II-listed building. The house also has some gardens and an orangery. There are two Capital Ring routes here, one for walkers and one for walkers with dogs. Both will get you spectacular views from Norwood Grove. The rest of the route is a path to the section finish line, Streatham Common. CAPITAL RING WALK: FALCONWOOD TO GROVE PARK From there, we were led past the playing fields of Eltham College down a rather narrow footpath. This path leads to Marvels Lane in Grove Park, where the Capital Ring Walk section two ends and where section three begins. Directions to Grove Park Station are signposted at this route marker. Section two is a lovely, shorter section of this walkWE GOT MARRIED!
Change. If I had to sum up these past few months, change is the word that immediately comes to mind. The biggest – and best – of these changes has to be the fact that I got married to my best friend and the most wonderful man I’ve ever met. SEARCHING FOR THE BEST COFFEE SHOPS IN BRUGES The one that’s perfect for cake-and-coffee meetups: Cafe Vero. Cafe Vero (featuring a cameo by some of my relatives, who happened to be in Bruges at the same time as us!). And I can say this with confidence, as we met up with my aunt and her fiance, who happened to be AMSTERDAM: A MORNING IN VONDELPARK The biggest disappointment of that day was discovering that ‘vondel’ did not, in fact, translate to a variation of the term ‘to wander’. I don’t even recall how that idea first got into my head, and a visit to Vondelpark in Amsterdam confirmed that the park was actually named after a 17th Century Dutch author – not the verb that I had fixated upon. HEAVENLY HALKIDIKI: THE ULTIMATE CARE-FREE MINIMOON It is known as the birthplace of the famous Greek philosopher Aristotle, who was born in a local town called Stagira all the way back in 384BC. The region was tangled up in a number of ancient wars, which resulted in it being part of different kingdoms/empires, including Macedonia, Roman and Byzantine. CAPITAL RING WALK: STREATHAM COMMON TO WIMBLEDON PARK The official section five stretches from Streatham Common to Wimbledon Park, and measures up to a total of 9 km. The starting point is the junction of Lewin and Estreham roads, which is just outside Streatham Common rail station. Devoid of lakes and other attractive features, this patch of green bordering Buckingham Palace was once home to highway bandits and was the site of an assassination attempt on Queen Victoria in 1840. HUNTING DOWN ROMAN RUINS IN BUDAPEST As mentioned, Aquincum is a fair way out of central Budapest, located in an area called Obuda. To get there, hop on the underground to Batthyany ter, and then catch the HEV. The latter will take you all the way to Aquincum (and, helpfully, the stop you need carries the same name). The journey takes about 20 minutes. CAPITAL RING WALK: CRYSTAL PALACE TO STREATHAM COMMON This mansion dates back to the 1840s and is a Grade II-listed building. The house also has some gardens and an orangery. There are two Capital Ring routes here, one for walkers and one for walkers with dogs. Both will get you spectacular views from Norwood Grove. The rest of the route is a path to the section finish line, Streatham Common. CAPITAL RING WALK: FALCONWOOD TO GROVE PARK From there, we were led past the playing fields of Eltham College down a rather narrow footpath. This path leads to Marvels Lane in Grove Park, where the Capital Ring Walk section two ends and where section three begins. Directions to Grove Park Station are signposted at this route marker. Section two is a lovely, shorter section of this walkWE GOT MARRIED!
Change. If I had to sum up these past few months, change is the word that immediately comes to mind. The biggest – and best – of these changes has to be the fact that I got married to my best friend and the most wonderful man I’ve ever met. SEARCHING FOR THE BEST COFFEE SHOPS IN BRUGES The one that’s perfect for cake-and-coffee meetups: Cafe Vero. Cafe Vero (featuring a cameo by some of my relatives, who happened to be in Bruges at the same time as us!). And I can say this with confidence, as we met up with my aunt and her fiance, who happened to be AMSTERDAM: A MORNING IN VONDELPARK The biggest disappointment of that day was discovering that ‘vondel’ did not, in fact, translate to a variation of the term ‘to wander’. I don’t even recall how that idea first got into my head, and a visit to Vondelpark in Amsterdam confirmed that the park was actually named after a 17th Century Dutch author – not the verb that I had fixated upon. HEAVENLY HALKIDIKI: THE ULTIMATE CARE-FREE MINIMOON It is known as the birthplace of the famous Greek philosopher Aristotle, who was born in a local town called Stagira all the way back in 384BC. The region was tangled up in a number of ancient wars, which resulted in it being part of different kingdoms/empires, including Macedonia, Roman and Byzantine. CAPITAL RING WALK: STREATHAM COMMON TO WIMBLEDON PARK The official section five stretches from Streatham Common to Wimbledon Park, and measures up to a total of 9 km. The starting point is the junction of Lewin and Estreham roads, which is just outside Streatham Common rail station.
