Along with Red Shea, John Stockfish comprised Lightfoot's first fulltime touring and recording band. Stockfish made his mark on Lightfoot's UA studio albums in the 60's, and was recruited for recording work on some of Lightfoot's biggest albums of the 70's, including Sundown and some of the re-recordings of UA material for Gord's Gold in July of 1975. LIGHTFOOT ODDS & ENDS "Lightfoot's masterpiece, 'Canadian Railroad Trilogy', was written from the inside-out. He wrote the slow middle first 'We are the naavies..' and then wrote the start and end portions around it."TERRY CLEMENTS
TORONTO - Gordon Lightfoot remembers his late guitarist Terry Clements as a "terrific guy" whose distinctive playing helped create some of the most memorable moments in Lightfoot's music.. Clements died on Feb. 20, 10 days after suffering a stroke. He was 63. "Terry was a terrific guy, and a wonderful friend and a great guitar player," Lightfoot said in a telephone interview Monday morning. Those who have followed the newsgroup since it's early days will remember numerous discussions around Lightfoot's 12-string work and the apparent trend away from using it on new songs since 1980 (Not including GGII, which only contained one newly released song). GORDON LIGHTFOOT INFLUENCES Here is a list of some of the major influences on Lightfoot. While there are certainly other artists who had a lesser impact on him, these, based on comments from Lightfoot over the years, seem to be the people who had the greatest and most lasting effect. "33rd Of August" was written by Mickey Newbury. Eliot Mazer was in the control room as producer. I don't know this for a fact, but it might be possible that a studio album was being considered as the final album under Lightfoot's UA contract, before finally settling on thelive release.
