The Council of the Library Foundation is the premiere fundraising group in support of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, which supports the Los Angeles Public STAFF | LIBRARY FOUNDATION OF LOS ANGELES Meg Cook Executive Manager, Advancement Services and External Affairs ABOUT US | LIBRARY FOUNDATION OF LOS ANGELES The Library Foundation of Los Angeles provides critical support to the Los Angeles Public Library resulting in free programs, resources, and services available to the millions of adults, children, and youth in Los Angeles. Through fundraising, advocacy, and innovative programs, the Library Foundation strengthens the Los Angeles Public Library and promotes greater awareness of its valuable CONTACT US | LIBRARY FOUNDATION OF LOS ANGELES As of May 3, 2021, the Los Angeles Public Library has reopened its doors at select physical locations, however, the Library Foundation staff continues to primarily work remotely through this transition. Mailed gifts are processed twice weekly. Donation and Membership gifts made online are acknowledged immediately. LIFT EVERY VOICE: WHY AFRICAN AMERICAN POETRY MATTERS Robin Coste Lewis. Robin Coste Lewis is the poet laureate of Los Angeles and writer-in-residence at the University of Southern California. Her poetry debut, Voyage of the Sable Venus (Knopf, 2015) was honored with the 2015 National Book Award for Poetry—the first poetry debut to do so since 1975, and the first debut to win in poetry by an African American. VISUALIZING LANGUAGE: OAXACA IN L.A. Visualizing Language celebrates the rich social fabric of Los Angeles through the lens of the city’s vibrant Oaxacan community — specifically, the Zapotec communities which make up one of the largest Indigenous groups in Mexico and Los Angeles. Oaxacan artist collective Tlacolulokos has created a series of new murals for the Central Library’s historic rotunda that explore language and THE PENGUIN BOOK OF THE MODERN AMERICAN SHORT STORY Sandra Cisneros. Sandra Cisneros is a poet, short story writer, novelist, and essayist whose work explores the lives of the working-class. Susan Orlean has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1992.She is the author of seven books, including Rin Tin Tin, Saturday Night, and The Orchid Thief, which was made into the Academy Award–winning film Adaptation.Her most recent, The Library Book, is the story of the 1986 fire at the Los Angeles Public Library.
