Written by Administrator Friday, 27 March 2020 22:05 A list of businessesthat are
open in the Ledbury area was compiled by the Ledbury Civic Society week beginning 23rd March. Since things are changing so rapidly during these extraordinary and very uncertain times, we suggest you contact the business to make sure they are still open before visiting. Note that, although the Little Marcle Road waste disposal site is closed until further notice, the BOTTLE BANKS outside the Co-op supermarket are open - but the clothes bank nearby is CLOSED. Please email the Ledbury Portal administratorThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to tell us of any errors, changes, omissions or additions to this list. We will try to keep the list as up to date as possible. Please note: we are NOT making any charge to do this - however it may take a while for any notified changes to be made. Please bear withus!
Don’t forget that if we don’t use these businesses they may very well close permanently, especially as Government help for the self-employed is unlikely to be available before June. Above all - keep well and keep safe.Wassail,

No trains - just buses Written by A. Cyclist Monday, 06 April 2020 09:06 As from today (Monday 6th April), West Midlands Railway has suspended ALL rail services between Hereford and Worcester. They have been replaced with buses ‘for the use of key workers ONLY’, which are marked ‘Private’ and are run by DRM - who are probably glad of the contract to replace their temporary loss of the school run. Buses leave from the normal bus stops near Ledbury station at approximately 6 minutes past the hour towards Hereford and 16 minutes past the hour towards Worcester. You will need to buy your ticket in advance from the ticket machine by the station entrance and walk back to the bus stops. (Though if it’s sunny, you won’t be able to see the machine’s screen... There is no alternative since the ticket office is closed.) Hard luck if you have a bike - they won’t take it - unless it’s a Brompton or other folding bike. GWR has also suspended services through Ledbury: London trains are terminating at Worcester Shrub Hill. Live bus departures are listed here.
Other information is available on WMR’s own website.

Written by The Market Theatre Monday, 16 March 2020 22:23 CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK In view of advice from government given on Monday 16th March regarding public gatherings during the Coronavirus pandemic, we have reluctantly decided to CANCEL OR POSTPONE ALL SHOWS until at least the end of June. Any change to this will be notified on our websiteas and when
we have further information. We will be contacting all patrons who have booked tickets during thisperiod
to offer full refunds. UPDATE: Many institutions, eg. The National Theatre, are offering 'Theatre at Home' via their own websites or YouTube. Please visit our Live Screenings pagefor further info.
ED: Update 17th March 12:30. The Courtyard in Hereford, the Conquest in Bromyard and Malvern Theatres have now all announced they have closed. As have all Odeons, including Hereford. The Prince of Wales intends to remain open until any directive to close is given. Such a directive can only take place from the following midnight, so it will definitely open tonight and, unless the (now) daily announcement from Boris this evening includes such a directive, it will be open tomorrow FOR THE 26TH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS WEDNESDAY MUSIC SESSION, STARTING 8:30ISH. The music sessions will be suspended thereafter anyhow until this horror is over. Last Updated on Friday, 01 May 2020 21:38 Bromsberrow Heath's Centenarian Written by A. Cyclist Saturday, 29 February 2020 14:09 Bromsberrow Heath's Roy Thompson is 25 100 today! We wish him a very happy 'proper' birthday. Roy was born in Derby on 29th February 1920 - and is still living in his own home. He is still driving (albeit infrequently and for short distances). More details about his life here.
That it’s a major achievement to reach the ton is without doubt - but it’s even rarer also to be a 'leapling' (a term coined to describe anyone born on 29th February). It is estimated there are 5 million 'leaplings' worldwide, ie. less than 0.1% of the globalpopulation.
A 'Quarter Peal' of 1260 Grandsire Doubles was rung in 37 minutes earlier today on the six bells of Bromsberrow church to “celebrate the 25th birthday of Bromsberrow resident Ernest Roy Thompson - 100years old today”.
Roy is not alone in the UK though - the BBCcarries a
report of a lady in Portsmouth also celebrating her 100th today.Read more...
