Though personal watercraft are not allowed on the lake at Independence Grove, you can rent fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and pedal boats at the marina spring through early fall. You can also rent comfort bikes, quadracycles and adaptive trikes.HASTINGS LAKE
Hastings Lake. Four miles of paved and gravel trails wind through open fields, woodlands of stately trees, and wetlands. Please keep dogs leashed and on trails at all times, and pick up after them. EDWARD L. RYERSON CONSERVATION AREA Our resident education red-tailed hawk passed away on May 7, 2021. She was one of the oldest red-tailed hawks on record and a true education ambassador. She lived her life at Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods and inspired more than 500,000 visitors. This is a difficult loss for the education staff who worked with her, for ourvolunteers

Stevenson II was Governor of Illinois from 1949 to 1953, ran twice for President as the Democratic National Candidate in 1952 and 1956, and served as Ambassador to the United Nations during the Kennedy administration from 1961 to 1965. Middlefork Savanna was acquired in phases, starting with the original purchase of 43 acres in 1989. The latest acquisition of 52 acres in 2000 expanded our ownership of a valuable watershed and added a needed buffer to Middlefork Savanna. In the late 1990s, a community advisory committee approved a plan for restoration and public access ADLAI E. STEVENSON HISTORIC HOME Adlai E. Stevenson Historic Home. Stevenson II was Governor of Illinois from 1949 to 1953, ran twice for President as the Democratic National Candidate in 1952 and 1956, and served as Ambassador to the United Nations during the Kennedy administration from 1961 to 1965. CAPTAIN DANIEL WRIGHT WOODS FOREST PRESERVE Captain Daniel Wright Woods. This peaceful oasis among the bustling suburbs offers 4 miles of scenic trails: a short loop for hikers, bicyclists and skiers that circles a pond, and a 3-mile loop for hikers, bicyclists, skiers and horses.
