I’m an art director in the hardcover picture book group at Scholastic Inc., the world’s largest publisher and distributor of BRIAN LAROSSA › ARTWORK Brian LaRossa › Artwork. From 2006 to 2012 I exhibited works of art in New York City, primarily with Marisa Sage’s Like the Spice Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I founded it in 2014 after curating an exhibition titled Undefined by Design which also explored the intersection of art and design. Some Type Brut display faces are reactions to early 20th century avant garde magazines, some are reactions to historically significant works of art. BRIAN LAROSSA › UNDEFINED BY DESIGN Undefined by Design was a group exhibition that featured works of art by twelve visionary designers including Milton Glaser, Debbie Millman, and Elliot Earls. In addition to curating the show I designed a show site and a 66 page catalog, featuring an essay by Ellen Lupton. The show was spotlighted by Print Magazine and Bushwick Daily.Curating the exhibition inspired me to start a type foundry BRIAN LAROSSA › LUDWIG WITTGENSTEIN’S LAST WORDS Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Last Words is a typographic work of art that was created for a group exhibition at Lorimoto Gallery. The piece is a collaboration between Allie Rex and myself and it received a certificate of typogrpahic excellence from the Type Director’s Club. The title of the piece is also its most literal description. I founded it in 2014 after curating an exhibition titled Undefined by Design which also explored the intersection of art and design. Some Type Brut display faces are reactions to early 20th century avant garde magazines, some are reactions to historically significant works of art. BRIAN LAROSSA › UNDEFINED BY DESIGN Undefined by Design was a group exhibition that featured works of art by twelve visionary designers including Milton Glaser, Debbie Millman, and Elliot Earls. In addition to curating the show I designed a show site and a 66 page catalog, featuring an essay by Ellen Lupton. The show was spotlighted by Print Magazine and Bushwick Daily.Curating the exhibition inspired me to start a type foundry BRIAN LAROSSA › LUDWIG WITTGENSTEIN’S LAST WORDS Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Last Words is a typographic work of art that was created for a group exhibition at Lorimoto Gallery. The piece is a collaboration between Allie Rex and myself and it received a certificate of typogrpahic excellence from the Type Director’s Club. The title of the piece is also its most literal description. My work has won awards from the Type Director's Club, Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, Print Magazine, and my experimental poetry is included in the permanent collection of the MoMA Library. I earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from MICA. I’ve also completed AIGA’s Business Perspectives for Creative Leaders program at the Yale School ofManagement.
