SAILING ON A VIKING DOURO RIVER CRUISE IN PORTUGAL: MY REVIEW The Douro River is navigable only due to a series of locks, not unlike many other European rivers. The key difference in Portugal is the size of these locks. They’re different than on the Danube or Rhine, which means the ships must also be different. Most cruise lines have packages for pre-or post-cruise stays, but it’s also easy to do it on your own. There’s no shortage of great hotels in Rome but on my most recent visit I decided to stay at a newer arrival on the luxury hotel scene, the Aleph Rome Hotel.Part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, the Aleph is a boutique luxury hotel in the heart of the city. 6 WAYS ALL HOTELS & RESORTS COULD IMPROVE In their defense, most major brands have slowly started to come around on this issue, giving slow and basic WiFi access to rewards club members. Since membership is free, this sort of solves the issue. Sort of. All hotels and resorts everywhere in the world should do their best to provide free and fast Internet access to all of their guests. ROUTE 66 FACT & FICTION Route 66 embodies everything we want America to be. It’s about exploration on a grand scale, it’s about new opportunities, it’s about connecting with small communities and warm-hearted people across the country. While all of that is true, the day-to-day experience of actually driving Route 66 is a lot different than most people mightrealize.

At its simplest, boudin is a combination of cooked rice, pork, onions, green peppers and seasonings. The mixture is pulverized in a meat grinder before being stuffed into sausage casings. Over the last few years I’ve made it a new tradition to visit different parts of Europe around the Christmas holidays. MY PERSONAL 40 BEFORE 40 CHALLENGE My Personal 40 Before 40 Challenge. I’m old, I know that. I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but here we are and today I turn 39. Sigh. WHAT’S BOUDIN & WHY LOUISIANA IS THE BEST PLACE TO FIND IT Boudin in Louisiana is different though from versions you’ll find in other parts of the world. At its simplest, boudin is a combination of cooked rice, pork, onions, green peppers and seasonings. The mixture is pulverized in a meat grinder before being stuffed into sausage casings. It is then steamed for on-the-spot eating. WHAT NOT TO DO IN MONTREAL Some of the things to avoid doing in Montreal. Get ‘authentic’ poutine – This is a good rule no matter where you go, but never eat anywhere with the words “authentic” “tourist” or “real” on the menu, especially when searching for poutine. The unofficial national dish of not just Quebec but all of Canada, poutine is a rich combination of fries, gravy and cheese curds. MOTUS – WHAT THEY ARE AND WHY THEY’RE KEY TO THE TAHITI Using geographical terms, a motu is a reef islet formed by broken coral and sand, surrounding an atoll. In other words, it’s a very small island. French Polynesia being what it is, there are thousands of small motus scattered around the Pacific Ocean, ranging in size from practically nonexistent to somewhat large. FIVE THINGS YOU (PROBABLY) DON’T KNOW ABOUT QUEBEC CITY Five Things You (Probably) Don’t Know About Quebec City. 1. French Not Required – Quebec is a complicated province. Thanks to a quirky history, the province is a bastion of French life in North America. French is the majority and sole official language of the province and about 80% of the population are native francophones.
