Biking in the Rain – LACBC. Los Angeles is a great place to bike year-round. We get about 34 days of rain every year, which doesn’t sound like a lot until it happens to be on a day you need to ride your bike. Handling the water and even a heavy downpour can be manageable. All you need to combat the conditions is a little bit of preparedness HOW TO LOCK YOUR BIKE How to Lock Your Bike. Find something sturdy to lock the bike to. Make sure thieves can’t simply lift the bike over it. Watch out for scaffolding and “sucker poles”—shake them FAT TIRE & LACBC PRESENT: RECONNECTING WITH PAAYME PAXAAYT Overview This ride pays homage to our annual community event that we’ve had to go without hosting for two years in a row. This ride begins at our usual gathering/starting location for the LA River Ride, but heads towards parts of the LA River that aren’t part of LACBC’s usual route from Griffith Park to Long Beach. During the COVID pandemic, LACBC teamed up with People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) to continue to distribute lights through PATH's service locations. Operation Firefly (Operacíon Luciérnaga) is an education and bike light distribution program of LACBC intended to make sure people riding bikes in LA County are riding safely at night. So far, we’ve equipped over 12,000 people across LA County with bike lights. In the 2019-2020 season, 3,850 riders were given front and rear bike lights!LA-BIKE.ORG

Once a month, LACBC offers its own bicycle education classes. These are weekday evening classroom sessions, typically at our main office in downtown Los Angeles and sometimes in our local chapter cities across the county. Running time is 60-90 minutes and pre-registration is preferred. Check back for a schedule of upcoming dates. Biking in the Rain – LACBC. Los Angeles is a great place to bike year-round. We get about 34 days of rain every year, which doesn’t sound like a lot until it happens to be on a day you need to ride your bike. Handling the water and even a heavy downpour can be manageable. OUR VISION | LOS ANGELES COUNTY BICYCLE COALITION The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) is a membership-based nonprofit organization that works to make all communities in LA County healthy, safe, and fun places to ride a bike through advocacy, education, and outreach.LA RIVERS CHALLENGE
Taking the place of the LA River Ride for 2021, the LA Rivers Challenge is LACBC's effort to help keep our community moving and healthy. Imagined as a virtual event that takes place across the entirety of LA County throughout the month of June, the LA Rivers Challenge will a new fun way to stay physically and mentally healthy while learning more about the entire LA River watershed. Our memberships operate on a sliding scale, we only ask that you make a contribution that is personally meaningful. PROGRAMS | LOS ANGELES COUNTY BICYCLE COALITION Small businesses needed more support than ever as a result of the COVID pandemic and as a way to help, LACBC teamed up with Sunset4All to launch the first #BikesMeanBusiness promotion, encouraging our community to patronize specific businesses along the Sunset Blvd.GET ON THE ROAD

MEET THE TEAM
Raised in the LA area, Kevin found cycling in 2004 and it has become an increasingly important part of his life ever since. Upon returning to the LA area following a decade out on the East Coast, Kevin helped to found Walk Bike Long Beach in 2015 and has been an active bike and pedestrian safety advocate as well as a community activist in LongBeach.
EDUCATION – LACBC

SIERRA NEVADA GO SUMMER Thanks to the generous support of our friends at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, we've put together a number of training ride options all over LA County to help you prepare for the LA Rivers Challenge!Each ride is a loop and covers a different part of LA County, taking advantage ofOPERATION FIREFLY
Operation Firefly (Operacíon Luciérnaga) is an education and bike light distribution program of LACBC intended to make sure people riding bikes in LA County are riding safely at night. So far, we’ve equipped over 12,000 people across LA County with bike lights. In the 2019-2020 season, 3,850 riders were given front and rear bike lights! EARN THE BADGES: COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE Our virtual LA Rivers Challenge is right around the corner! Starting June 1, whether you signed up to complete 31 miles or 200, our waterway badges will guide your path to victory from week to week. Starting June 1, we'll be announcing waterway badges week by week that correspond with your chosen mileage goal. RECHARGE (31 MILES) If you signed up for the 31 mile Recharge Challenge, your week 1LA-BIKE.ORG
