A DOTTEREL FORTRESS! The fortress looked like a castle surrounded by a moat. We left the dotterel with a fortress that would hold back the water. We prayed it would survive the night and the next high tide. The next day was my birthday, and the wall was still there, right around it. We did a

TRACKING TUNNELS

Tracking Tunnels. In this photo, left to right: McKenzie, Emma, Caelyn, and Madison. I loved the idea of making tracking tunnels! We had to cut the cardboard into 5 bits. Then we had to hold it and tape it together. We were looking for some tracking tunnels. Pete was telling us about how tracking tunnels help us track invasive species. FROM TADPOLES TO FROGS From tadpoles to frogs. My neighbour Mrs. Hill gave me a bucket of tadpoles. The tadpoles were like 3 cm fat. I had been waiting a little while but they came. We set up a black tub with part of an old rabbit cage on top so the cats couldn’t get in. I went to the farm to get some duck weed from the drain. I put it in the tub with the tadpoles. MAKE A TRACKING TUNNEL A piece of thin, white card or cardboard for the tunnel. A rectangular plastic lid and 1 tissue for the ink pad. Some food colouring mixed with water for the ink. An earthworm breathes oxygen by absorbing it through its moist skin. It likes damp soil, but if the rain is very heavy, the oxygen in the water-logged soil may run out. Then the worm has to come up into the air to breathe. On top of the wet ground, the worm can breathe and wriggle along. It might find a new home, or even a mate.
