THE PEOPLE OF KARTEMQUIN With a noted tradition of nurturing emerging talent and acting as a leading voice for independent media, Kartemquin is building on more than 50 years of history as Chicago's documentary powerhouse.WHERE ARE THEY NOW
Kartemquin's 2002 documentary Stevie aired on Australian television for the first time this weekend, drawing a strong response from viewers. The devastating story of filmmaker Steve James' relationship with troubled Stevie Fielding, the IDFA award-winning film is among our most provocative and compelling works, as the social media reactions of the ABC2 viewers showed. HULU/KARTEMQUIN ACCELERATOR The two filmmakers selected for the Hulu / Kartemquin Accelerator will each receive: A grant of $20,000 towards production. Guided support through the award-winning Kartemquin collaborative production model. Access to the Kartemquin office, production equipment, and editingfacilities.
AMERICA TO ME
Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Steve James (Hoop Dreams, Life Itself) examines racial, economic and class issues in contemporary American education in the ten-part unscripted documentary series America to Me. Poignant and funny, epic and intimate, America to Me spends an academic year at Chicagoland's elite Oak Park and River Forest High School (OPRF), allowing its REFRIGERATOR MOTHERS Refrigerator Mothers trailer. This opens in a new window. An intimate portrait of an entire generation of mothers, already laden with the challenge of raising profoundly disordered children, who lived for years under the dehumanizing shadow of professionally promoted "motherblame."
ASHLEY O'SHAY
Ashley O'Shay is a freelance DP and documentarian based in Chicago, IL, whose work focuses on illuminating marginalized voices. She has produced work for national brands, including Lifetime, Ford Motor Company, Boost Mobile, KQED, and Dr. Martens. Most recently, she filmed the Chicago episode of KQED’s “If Cities Could Dance,” garnering over 600K views on social and web.DIANE MOY QUON
Diane Quon is an Academy Award-nominated producer who worked as a marketing executive for 17 years at NBC and at Paramount Pictures before moving back to her hometown of Chicago. Diane is producing multiple Kartemquin documentaries including the Oscar and Emmy nominated, Peabody and Sundance award-winning film, Minding the Gapdirected by Bing

IN THE FAMILY
Beginning with her story of testing positive for the familial breast cancer mutation (BRCA), Filmmaker Joanna Rudnick chronicles the lives of several women currently undergoing the process of genetic testing -- following them from their decision to seek testing, through the testing process, and in the aftermath when they are coming to terms with the information they receive. ON BEAUTY | KARTEMQUIN FILMS From Emmy-nominated filmmaker Joanna Rudnick (In the Family) and Chicago’s Kartemquin Films comes a story about challenging norms and redefining beauty. On Beauty follows fashion photographer Rick Guidotti, who left the fashion world when he grew frustrated with having to work within the restrictive parameters of the industry’sstandard of beauty.
