Nomading 2016: Day 5 – Bye Reykjavík! Posted. by Julien Melissas. on December 18th, 2016 . I got up early once again for a last adventure: a visit to Reykjavík’s naturally heated pools with some new friends, and then on the way to the airport! And then on the way to another airport! NO GUTTER COLUMN TRICK FOR BOOTSTRAP Recently I had a need to have a default grid in Bootstrap, but also on the homepage I needed to have 4 boxes that butted right up against each other. I came up with a handy .no-gutters class, which has some pretty basic CSS, that you apply to your .row tag holding your columns. Regular Bootstrap version below (with kittens!): No gutters: Now here’s our code for the .no-gutters class: .row.no FRAMEN: “FANCY” INSTANT RAMEN Cheap and easy food isn’t that hard if you know the right places to look, and often you can make it look really pretty too!! I’m always looking for things I can make on the go with ingredients I can keep in my fridge and use for different stuff. Enter fRamen: Instant Ramen is one of those staples college students and travelers alike always have in their pantry/backpack. ACF’S GET_FIELDS(); Sometimes Advanced Custom Field’s get_field(); and the_field();functions are enough for pages with a few custom fields, but for pages with lots more, or with really complex custom fields (like those using a repeater or flexible image field), you’ve got to use something with a little more firepower (and organization). Let’s talk about ACF for a sec. I love Advanced Custom Fields. It makes SETTING THE ALT ATTRIBUTE FROM AN ACF IMAGE OBJECT You want to make sure your site always has an alt attribute for every single IMG tag for usability reasons, right? Yes. The answer to that question is yes. This is how to get one with ACF, without having to fill in the alt field for every single media object. USING ANGULAR.JS AND SAGE Using Angular.js and Sage. I’m really loving this Grado Cartridge. It’s a Grado Prestige Red, in case any one cares about the specificsI made this choice because it was recommended to me by NOMADING 2016: DAY 5 I got up early once again for a last adventure: a visit to Reykjavík’s naturally heated pools with some new friends, and then on the way to the airport! And then on the way to another airport! To endure the WORST LAYOVER EVER. To then go to another airport. Laugardalslaug – The Reykjavík Public Pools I met a few people in the hostel’s communal kitchen and one of them knew about CAST IRON BAKED CHICKEN LEGS (SPANISH-STYLE) Spanish-Style Cast Iron Baked Chicken Legs. As seen on Instagram, Karl asked me to write this out. He probably didn’t need this much help, but I’m putting it here anyways so everyone can enjoy it! NOMADING 2016: DAY 4 I went and dropped the car back off at SADcars and walked back to the hostel to get some things in order. I worked a little bit from the main room and then because a rock band was going to play, I went upstairs to go hang out in the common kitchen on my floor. NO GUTTER COLUMN TRICK FOR BOOTSTRAP Recently I had a need to have a default grid in Bootstrap, but also on the homepage I needed to have 4 boxes that butted right up against each other. SETTING THE ALT ATTRIBUTE FROM AN ACF IMAGE OBJECT You want to make sure your site always has an alt attribute for every single IMG tag for usability reasons, right? Yes. On this road trip I found out you can’t just go to Reykjavík and leave it at that. The real beauty of Iceland is in the countryside, and it’s a big place, so you’ve got to do alot of driving.
SETTING THE ALT ATTRIBUTE FROM AN ACF IMAGE OBJECT You want to make sure your site always has an alt attribute for every single IMG tag for usability reasons, right? Yes. The answer to that question is yes. This is how to get one with ACF, without having to fill in the alt field for every single media object. SLIDES FROM WORDCAMP ATLANTA 2015 I spoke at WordCamp Atlanta 2015 on the Sage starter theme. Here arethe slides.
NOMADING 2016: DAYS 10 & 11 Infinitely less exciting than renting a motorcycle, but still awesome, I made the last day in Portugal about their craft beer offerings. MAYBE-RGBA() SASS FUNCTION Posted byJulien Melissas on __December 16th, 2017.
Earlier today I found myself in a funny situation. I have a sass mixin than adds a screen to divs which expects 2 arguments: $color and $opacity. From there, it takes those values and adds the appropriate code. Only problem, is I’m using my new customizer library (coming soon to a GitHub near you, IFeatured__
