STASH REPORT

Yesterday I told you that I stopped at the quilt shop in New Hampton, Iowa, Quilter’s Window.  I didn’t tell you what I found though. First off…I need to tell you if I have any luck at the thrift store.  The answer…YES.  I did. They ended up boxing up all the shirts I found.  30 in all.  I take everything I find that is 100% cotton when I go. As for black and white shirts…JACKPOT!  I found FIVE.  I never find that many.  I’ve been looking for about two years now and I only find one here and there.  It was a good karma day as that quilt is moving to the front burner.  I’ll tell you more about that

another day though.

As for the quilt shop…I bought a few things there too.  I told you all that once I go off the fabric diet, it’s a bit of a struggle for me to get back on there. Here’s what I bought…. Yes.  I couldn’t pass by the white based neutrals. I love anything with words or a bit of color.  I love the stars and the graff paper.  The one with words second from the left is actually a Christmas fabric but I don’t care.  I’ll use it in anything. My favorite was this one…Don’t you love it?  If you went to libraries in the olden days and saw the dates stamped on the library cards they looked so much like this.  I adore the fabric. I snagged some food fabric.  I’ve recently worked on the food quilt for my lady that comes in and teaches the childcare kids Farm to Table.  Jean gave me a kit to make it and I thought I would look for fabric and gift her some back.  I found seven on this day. I did get a couple pieces for the mystery quilt.  I’m being pretty picky with what I select.  I could still use a few more pieces but if I don’t find them, I think I have enough to manage.  I just like

LOTS of variety.

It was fun to go to the shop and see all there is.  I am glad that I don’t go to shops regularly though.  I would be so tempted. I’m giving myself until the new year and the mystery quilt is done…then I think I better go back to the fabric diet.  This has been getting expensive…but I’ve been having fun and as Karl would tell me, “Treat yourself”.

CHICKEN ENCHILADA SOUP

Year ago I had joking told my husband, Kramer, if you ever die, I’m going to each soup for most of my meals…I never thought he’d be dying anytime soon, but he did and here I am.  I spoke the truth then as I now eat a lot of soup.  Seriously, I love soup.  He always hated it as it didn’t “fill him up”. So as I was trolling Facebook the other day I saw a recipe for Chicken Enchilada Soup and knew if I have the ingredients, or I could improvise them enough, I’d be making the soup. This recipe could easily be improvised to use up leftover turkey from Thanksgiving if you have some.  If you do that, adjust the cooking

time to 2 minutes.

The recipe I found was for Crock Pot Soup…well I’m not a Crock Pot Girl.  I’m an Instant Pot Girl but recipes like this are easy to

adjust so I did….

Here’s the recipe: Continue reading →

QUILT SHOP TOUR: QUILTER’S WINDOW

A Saturday or two ago I was doing errands when I remembered that the thrift store in the opposite town from the direction I was doing errands was having a bag sale.  Ten items go into a bag for usually $10.  It used to be something crazy like $3 for the bag but they upped the prices awhile ago.  This day they were having a $5 sale. That sounds more in my price range.  I am gearing up to make a couple quilts and I needed more black and white 100% cotton shirts. I decided to go…it was a jaunt from one town to the other but as Karl tells me, “treat yourself”. Being I was in town I hit up the quilt shop.   The shop is called Quilter’s Window .  I am still casually looking for more print for the mystery quilt.  I figured being I was in town anyway I might as well check it out and see if they had anything that would work for me. It had been a long time since I was in the shop.  I seriously wouldn’t doubt if it’s been a year.  Seriously.  I’ve always liked the shop but this year, life has been heavy and hasn’t allowed

for much shopping.

The shop is great for a quilt shop.  The window entry area is deep. It allows for the display of a lot of quilts and samples. This was the first thing I saw upon entry.  Oh my, I love this fabric

line.

The shop isn’t really big, and they have a display of Pfaff sewing machines, but Denise, the owner, has made it nice and cozy with lots of BANG for the space. Typically she has quite a few fabric lines displayed together.  I love that she doesn’t just have “all Moda” or all another brand of fabric.  That means, I always see something new and fresh that I haven’t seen other places. Hello red, white and black.  These are the local high school’s school colors so I think these colors are pretty popular. She carries quite a few bag and pouch patterns.  Most have samples and are they are sprinkled throughout the store.  Here is the main display with all the zippers and notions you might want. Here is the patriotic fabric area….. Continue reading →

WHAT I’M READING: THE SILENT PATIENT

I’m sneaking an extra “what I’m reading” post in here this week.  I’ve got the day off today and could write this post in advance and enjoy a little more me and family time if I had posts

written in advance.

I was a busy girl about two months ago and went on Bridges the online library I have.  It takes for FOREVER to get a book there so every so often I go and fill my wait list with books, then I go to Audible or Hoopla and get books from there while I wait for books to show up at Bridges.  As I was writing this post, I added some books and two of them say that the wait will be more than 6 months.  UGH.  Anyway… The other day I got a notice that this book had finally come available…The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

.

It was really refreshing to read a book that wasn’t so heavy.  This is a mystery/suspense type book.  I have to admit to getting to where I only had about 50 minutes left in the book and I had to stop as it was time for the childcare kids to come.  I was thinking about the book all day long and wondering what was going to happen.  That’s when I know I hit on a pretty good book. Here’s what Amazon had to say: Continue reading →
