PAUGHCO FRAME IDENTIFICATION I purchased a frame with a 1980 basket case and some other parts. It appears to be a paughco frame, and I would assume the guy was going to put that motor in it. ADDING 2-WIRE STATOR AND TYMPANIUM TO '64 TRIUMPH The '64 is becoming 12-volt + ground. I'm a little confused about wiring. I know you need to combine 2 of the stator wires together, but I'm not sure which. The new 2-wire stator is green-white and green-yellow. The original harnass connection to the stator is green-black, green-yellow, and white-green. The green-yellow goes offto connect to
TROUBLE SHOOTING A MAGNETO Use spare spark plugs tied together, or a bridged gap of 0.200 inch (5 mm) or more, to test for sufficient starting voltage. Bear in mind, the slower the motor and/or magneto is turned, the lower the voltage output. We normally test output at a constant speed of 400 engine RPMs, using an oscilloscope to measure voltage. SHOVELHEAD OIL PUMP ON A PANHEAD: THE FACTS Saw that, thanks (I think Rubone posted over on CAImag). The pics were hard to see, but from studying them, my best guess is that the only real functional difference between 68-72 and 73+ pump bodies is the chain oiling, via the new small hole drilled through the pump body, which lines up w/ the new chain oiler hole added to the engine case in'73.

I picked up a 79 FXEF in a Paugcho frame. It was in pieces when I got it which was OK with me as the motor and possibly the rotery top trans is all I plan on using. This basket came with a folder full of documentation, a clean special construction title to the frame and some real eccentricpieces.

The ratchet top is later and not original to that box. The kit you need is for a pre'65 4 speed. The kicker cover is aftermarket. They were only used in the FX. #34006-74 was used in 1975-1979 4 speeds. #34010-76 was used in late 1976-1979 3-speed w/ reverse transmissions. I believe FX models 1971-1974 used the FL shifter camand
WHAT YEAR IS MY HARLEY 4 SPEED?? The plate that looks like 100 on it is actually 10-0 which means October 1950. The ratchet top is later and not original to that box. The kit you need is for a pre'65 4 speed. The kicker cover is aftermarket. And that 3 inch belt on an early box like that is sure death of the main drive gear bearing! BSA A65 CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT. The later models used a ball and ramp type, similar to unit engined Triumphs. One the earlier type, adjust the clutch adjusting screw with the handlebar adjuster screwed almost all the way in. Turn the adjusting screw in until you just feel it contact the TIMING A SHOVELHEAD, HELP!!! 1) set points gap. 2) get the FRONT cylinder on compression stroke. 3) still on the front cylinder on compression stroke, rotate the motor (using the rear wheel in gear or by use of the kicker) Bring the TIMING mark (the line/slash) to center of the timing window. ANYONE EVER USE A PANHEAD ALTERNATOR CONVERSION? Bullet proof and only about $300 for the gen w/ reg. EDIT: I just checked and the CE 12v generator w/ reg is up in price $100 since the last time I checked. Now $400 is the cheapest price I could find in a quick search. I've seen two of those vtwin alternator conversions withbroken shafts.

JOCKEYING FOR A WIN
Posted on March 20th, 2017 by The JJ Editors Filed under: Featured Member, Featured Thread
Let’s see if we can get this homepage crankin’ again, eh? We’ve had a long hiatus since this page has been welcoming or relevant, but some changes have come down the pipe. Our new mission is to highlight some of the very best the Jockey Journal calls home, and maybe a few interesting things from other places. If you’ve got suggestions, message the moderators. Today, we’re showcasing a pretty special Jockey Journalist and his project. In case you’ve been living under a rock, one of your fellow members,Christian Newman
, has been
working his fingers to the bone trying to get his bike some primo real estate this summer at the Oak Canyon Ranch. He’s planning on putting his bike into the Born Free show by simple dint of perseverance: Christian has a willingness to make items most would never dream of attempting to fabricate. It appears he’s planning on acting on every one of those nutty ideas that come occasionally to those of us who build bikes. The only difference is Christian seems to have ’em a lot more often, and he outworks everyone else by acting on what seems like all of them. His bike is motivated by a ’40 Knuckle, and his frame is handbuilt. ” I have designed, fabricated, and assembled every piece of the frame and fork with the exception of the tires,
chainring, brake rotor, a few miscellaneous parts and some of the hardware,” he says. That doesn’t sound too weird just yet — but we ain’t done telling you about it. The frame is mirror-polished 316 stainless steel which also carries the oil. To keep things slender, he’s running the sprocket and brake disc outboard of the frame. And the front end? It’s a girder. That he built. From scratch. That tasty number up above is a little example of the sort of mechanical creativity kicking around this guy’s grey matter. Christian designed a new kicker and clutch release arm for the 4-speed backing up the Knuck, and then executed it (beautifully) in metal. He’s been displaying this level of ingenuity throughout the course of his project. Newman is building a killer bike, and making the Jockey Journal an interesting place to visit, largely because of his build threadlocated here
. Christian
has invested not just time and effort and money in his project, but he’s also taken time to better the Jockey Journal. He’s written nice, clear descriptions of what he is doing, and his photos are pretty damn excellent. Fortunately, you can return the favor! Do him a solid and go help him become the People’s Champ. Take some time out of your day and go do one or all of the following: •On the Show Class Instagram page,
simply comment with the word “vote” •Pull a lever over at Lowbrow Customs , one of the site sponsors •Head to the Show Class polland show your
fellow Jockey Journalist some support Go get ’em, Newman. We’re rooting for you! BONNEVILLE STORIES PART IV – 1953 TWIN ENGINE HARLEY KNUCKLEHEADDRAGSTER
Posted on April 9th, 2013 by Administrator Filed under: Uncategorized Robert Bud Schmitt, now 81 years old, built and rode THE MONSTER a two engine Harley Davidson motorcycle which ran at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1955.
