ABOUT JAI VILAS PALACE Designed and constructed by Sir Michael Filose, a French architect, in 1874 during the reign of Maharaja Jayajirao Scindia, the Jai Vilas Palace stands tall among all Palaces in India. The unique European architectural style of the Palace has Tuscan in the ground floor, Italian – Doric in the first floor, and corinthian in the second floor. How nicely the European design and architecture has suited the climatic conditions obtaining in the central India, points to the genius of the architect. Built-in rain water harvesting/ conservation arrangement, rooms with high ceilings and cross ventilations, and air cooling system incorporated during the construction of the Palace, speaks volume of imagination of the architect.__

Held the reins of the dynasty when he was 10, however a council of Regency was appointed to look after the affairs of the state till 1894, thereafter Maharaja was granted full powers to take all decisions. Married to Chinkoo Raje in 1891. With all round development of the Gwalior State–industries, modernising farming, reforms in SHRIMANT JAYAJIRAO SCINDIA(1843-1886) CE Jayaji waded through the trouble times during mutiny in 1857 with utmost wisdom and guarded his people and the territory. Conferred with an award o G.C.S.I, was given 21-gun salute in 1877. He was made councilor and later became G.C.B and C.I.E. Died on 20 Jun 1886, and was succeeded by his son Madhavrao Scindia SHRIMANT MAHADJI SCINDIA (1761-94) CE Mahadji imbibed the ideals of his father Ranojirao, and Peshwa’s Bajirao through his childhood. By the dint of his hard work, ambition, and perseverance, Mahadji became the chief architect of the mighty Scindia Army. Mahadji envisioned for a strong and well-organised army which should be equipped with modern European weapons and better training.
