At a time the state is grappling with a deficit you can count in the B as in Billions, taxpayers have been greeted with the news that Tesla’s plant in South Buffalo has scrapped some $50 million of equipment purchased with state tax dollars. HARPDATA TRIES, TRIES AGAIN HarpData was not obligated to disclose the $800,000 judgment when bidding on the Connected Communities project last spring, Kuzma told Investigative Post, because the judgment was levied after that contract was awarded. That’s resulted in the release of 154 inmates. In addition, eight inmates who are pregnant or recently gave birth have been released. To be fair, the loss of advertising due to fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic was no doubt the driving force behind the TOXINS AT NIAGARA FALLS AIRBASE Ashton is a firefighter who served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at the Niagara Falls airbase from 1996 to 2005. Ashton told Investigative Post that his department tested its hoses and tanks every morning — not for long, just a CHILD PORNOGRAPHY PROSECUTIONS ON THE RISE In Monroe County, which includes Rochester, prosecutions by the district attorney have dropped, from 57 in 2015 to 10 last year. It’s got another $23.8 million available for future expenses, most of it from the Buffalo Billion. Spending so far has gone mostly for soft costs — lawyers, engineers, purchasing the land and the like. BUFFALO MAYOR'S RACE IS ON The mayor’s spokesman, Mike DeGeorge, told Investigative Post on Wednesday Brown would turn in about 6,000 signatures. The mayor’s signature count is lower than in past reelection campaigns, but proportional given the COVID restrictions. FAULTY LOGIC BEHIND REFUSAL TO RELEASE INMATES To gain release from state prison because of COVID-19 concerns, Cuomo has said an inmate must be over 55 and be serving a sentence for a non-violent crime that has less than 90 days remaining. That’s resulted in the release of 154 inmates. In addition, eight inmates who are pregnant or recently gave birth have been released. STUDY: BUFFALO FINANCES AMONG WORST IN US The study published by The Times found Buffalo faces a revenue shortfall of between $73 million and $104 million this fiscal year. The mayor’s budget, adopted in June, projects the city will take in $519.6 million. That budget relies on $65.1 million in federal aid, which has not been appropriated by UNION SHARES BUFFALO POLICE CONTRACT The document is 382 unwieldy pages, comprising agreements, amendments, arbitration awards and memoranda dating back to 1986. “The union contract is a collection of documents that stretches back about 30 years. It hasn’t been consolidated,” Jonathan Manes, former chairman of the Buffalo Police Advisory Board, told Investigative Postlast week.
