DECIPHERING CENTROMERES TO UNDERSTAND HOW CANCER CELLS Deciphering centromeres to understand how cancer cells develop. Centromeres are, in most of the cases in humans, the center of our chromosomes and play an essential role in the conservation of our genetic makeup during cell division. Changes to this process can cause cell transformation and, ultimately, can allow cancer to develop. WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF PROTON THERAPY? Headaches, nausea and vomiting: These are the result of swelling in or around the tumor, which reacts to the irradiation. This swelling may lead to irritation of the area of the brain that controls nausea and/or vomiting. Alopecia or hair loss: A result of the rays, this is temporary and appears only where the rays pass; hair grows back within COMPOSERS OF THE MUSE-IC PROJECT The music of Manhattan-based composer Alexandra du Bois (Ph.D. Stony Brook University; M.M. WHAT ARE ENT CANCERS? : SYMPTOMS, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT Cancer is a serious disease whose cure will depend on whether it is localised or, on the contrary, has metastasized with extended lesions. The five-year cure rate varies between 20% and 80%. There are many types of ENT cancers. They are generally classed according to the location of the tumour. The Curie Institute is a cancer research and care centre characterized by interdisciplinarity. The Cellular and Chemical Biology department cherishes this spirit by uniting within the same perimeter researchers from various backgrounds, notably organic chemistry and cell biology. It is our objective to address the timeliest challenges in life sciences and biomedicine from unique angles SPATIO-TEMPORAL DYNAMICS OF IMMUNE CELLS We work at the interface of cell biology, immunology and biophysics. We aim at deciphering the fundamental cell biological mechanisms that control the spatio-temporal regulation of antigen presentation. In this context, we develop two main axis of research: the coordination between cell migration and antigen uptake and presentation in dendritic cells the role of cellNICOLAS GIRARD

Glioblastoma is BIOMIMETISM OF CELLULAR MOVEMENT Biomimetism of Cellular Movement. We study how cells change shape and move, with implications for understanding cancer invasion and metastasis. Our approach is based on the study of in vitro biomimetic systems and in vivo cellular and animal models to dissect the physical and biochemical mechanisms governing cell shape change and movement. CYTOSKELETAL ARCHITECTURE AND CELL MORPHOGENESIS Our team explores how the cytoskeleton is organized, how it controls the establishment of functional membrane domains devoted to polarized cell growth or cell division, and how it is remodeled at mitotic entry for the assembly of the mitotic spindle and contractile ring, two complex molecular machines promoting chromosome segregation andcytokinesis.

Like all treatments, proton therapy may produce unwanted side effects. These effects vary considerably from one patient to another. They depend on the dose (photons and protons) administered, the location of the treatment and the reactions of each patient. BREAST CANCER
This course focuses on breast cancers from both a biological and a clinical perspective. It will cover the biology of breast cancers in the context of pathology, diagnostics of the disease and treatments, ongoing medical trials as well as modalities of follow-up. A special focus will emphasize recent data on basal-like and hereditary breast cancers, their new therapeutic strategies and the FRENCH FOUNDATION FOR CANCER RESEARCH The French foundation for cancer research Institut Curie fight against cancer thanks to an hospital, with the best experts, an internationally-renowned research centre and a teaching programmes to train tomorrow's cancer experts. UROGENITAL CANCERS : SYMPTOMS, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF Urogenital cancers (prostate, kidney, bladder and testicle) are treated by the medical teams at Institut Curie. In a multidisciplinary consultation meeting, a personalized care plan is offered to each patient, with access to innovative treatment as soon as possible. WHAT IS PROTON THERAPY? : EXTERNAL RADIOTHERAPY USING What is protontherapy? It is an external radiotherapy which uses the energy of a proton beam to destroy tumor cells. Due to the physical properties of this beam, the radiation dose delivered to the tumor can be increased, while the dose delivered to the healthy tissues close to the tumor is minimized. PROTON THERAPY CENTER The Proton Therapy Center is located in Orsay. It is one of the three technical platforms in the Radiotherapy department at Institut Curie. The first treatments administered were for melanoma of the eye, but since then tumor locations treated have become more diverse, with treatment of certain tumors at the base of the skull in particular, in adults and children. MULTIMODAL IMAGING CENTER (US43-UMS2016) The Multimodal Imaging Center (MIC) was created on 1 January 2020 by the four trustees, the CNRS, the Inserm, the Institut Curie, and Université Paris-Saclay, as a service unit UMS2016/ US43. The MIC Unit brings together the expertise of Imaging (Light Microscopy, Electron cryo-Microscopy, Ionic Microscopy, Image Processing and Analysis) and makes available to theINSTITUT CURIE

SPATIO-TEMPORAL DYNAMICS OF IMMUNE CELLS We work at the interface of cell biology, immunology and biophysics. We aim at deciphering the fundamental cell biological mechanisms that control the spatio-temporal regulation of antigen presentation. In this context, we develop two main axis of research: the coordination between cell migration and antigen uptake and presentation in dendritic cells the role of cell This site uses cookies to provide personalized content and advertising, to make it easier to share information on social media, and to measure audience size.Find out more
