Hey everyone time for another weekly update. As I mentioned last week I’m going to go more into scheduling with this update. At the moment the new networking code is being merged into the game. This is the single most important blocker for the release of the Alpha and once it’s finished Flavien will resume work on core gameplay. Last Sunday we released alpha patch 0.3.1.0 which contains the long-awaited initial haulers implementation. As a reminder, in the previous placeholder implementation prior to this patch, factories generated team credits at a constant rate. In the new patch, haulers spawn in a hangar, take off from the planet until low orbit, then enter warp until they reach a destination space stationWEEKLY UPDATE #88
Our alpha play-test week-end has ended and I would like to thank everybody who participated. It seems like everybody enjoyed its time and had some great fun. The feedback has been extremely positive as usual and we’re happy with the outcome. Greetings everybody. This week in Infinity: Battlescape, we have been working on the haulers implementation. The algorithm to figure out a navigation path between planets has taken more time than anticipated but should be resolved this week. We are actually planning on making it more generic than just establishing a route for haulers, so that the algorithm can be reused for AI bots later TO VULKAN OR NOT TO VULKAN, THAT IS THE QUESTION I’ve been investigating Vulkan ever since it came out roughly a month ago. Ideally we would be able to port the engine to Vulkan sometime by the end of this year. It’s a radical change and a non-trivial effort, probably a whole man month of work, but the more stuff we build the bad old way the harder it will be to move to the new good way at some point in the future. We’ll go into issues with floating point precision and how to combat them, how to apply a quad-tree spatial partitioning system to a sphere, how to determine desired level of PROCEDURAL CITIES ETC Hi, I posted in the suggestions thread about Citys how they could procedurally done. And i thinked about it, i’m asking wether when i program a noise routine to put random 3D objects instead of normal noise on the planets it will be used in I:B. This week in Infinity: Battlescape, we have continued to work on the hauler, which has turned out to be more complex than anticipated. The AI navigation path is now almost finished but still far from perfect. A path can be generated from a planetary ground installation to another, either on the same planet or another planet. And i thinked about it, i’m asking wether when i program a noise routine to put random 3D objects instead of normal noise on the planets it will be used in I:B. This week in Infinity: Battlescape, we have continued to work on the hauler, which has turned out to be more complex than anticipated. The AI navigation path is now almost finished but still far from perfect. A path can be generated from a planetary ground installation to another, either on the same planet or another planet. The path generator properly sets up a course to avoid collisions with TO VULKAN OR NOT TO VULKAN, THAT IS THE QUESTION I’ve been investigating Vulkan ever since it came out roughly a month ago. Ideally we would be able to port the engine to Vulkan sometime by the end of this year. It’s a radical change and a non-trivial effort, probably a whole man month of work, but the more stuff we build the bad old way the harder it will be to move to the new good way at some point in the future.
