DESIGNING A BUFFET PLAN: TOP 10 TIPS FOR Buffet dining can be a blessing and a curse in the same bite, depending how you approach the multitude of food on offer. The price is most often the most enticing aspect of a buffet, allowing you the chance to eat a wide range of cuisines in the same meal, but somewhere between low quality food and bad choices, so many times, I’ve left a buffet feeling overly full or unsatisfied or, worse, both. HOW TO VISIT TIJUANA FROM SAN DIEGO Tijuana is just 20 miles (32 kilometres) from San Diego and it takes about 45 minutes to get from Fifth Avenue in downtown San Diego to the San Ysidro border crossing. CYCLING FROM ALASKA TO PATAGONIA Cycling from Alaska to Patagonia. I had been looking for a trip that combines cycling and mountaineering. 40 CHEAP THINGS TO DO IN MIAMI 18. Take a free walking tour of south beach. Walking tours should be on your list of free things to do in Miami. In four days I planned to cram in a look at the strip, a flutter on the roulette, a taste of the legendary Las Vegas cuisine, a world-famous show, a bit of designer shopping (remember, I was a lawyer back then with more money than sense) and, of course, a trip to the Grand Canyon. A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE: EATING KOBE BEEF IN JAPAN For a while, following the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Japan in 2010, all export of Kobe beef was stopped. Yes, you may have continued to see it on menus (Kobe sliders are a popular appetizer in the USA). However, much of that meat is actually faux-be beef, an imitation of the real deal, that prompted an interesting exposé byForbes.
WHAT TO EAT IN JAMAICA: TRADITIONAL JAMAICAN FOOD Curry goat. Probably the next most popular dish in Jamaica (or at least next most commonly served) is curry goat. Exactly as it sounds, it’s goat – curried. As mentioned above, the curry has a fair kick to it, but should be tolerable by most, and the goat is usually so tender it falls off the bone. VARADERO BEACH RESORTS IN CUBA: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE Varadero beach is without a doubt one of Cuba’s tourist beaches. Cuba is a quirky place for sure, but it wasn’t until I started researching beach areas in Cuba that I began to understand how different Cuba was compared to other islands I’d visited in the quest for a spot of sun-soaking. Even though anger may boil to the surface, taking your frustration out on the ground staff or spending half an hour pleading with them to do the impossible (even more tempting if the gate has closed but your flight hasn’t left), just burns time and energy. Move on. 4. IS DETROIT SAFE? THE ANSWER FROM SOMEONE WHO'S BEEN Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from my visit to Detroit. I’d heard great things about the city from fellow travel bloggers Hecktic Travels and LLWorld Tour: Detroit is the comeback city, regeneration is happening and there’s an amazing BBQ joint. That last point is usually enough to take me to any city, regardless of scarestories.
THE GAMBIA’S “ROOTS”: WHEN GOOD INTENTIONS LEAD TO BAD Over 6 million copies of Haley’s book, “Roots: The Saga of An American Family” have been sold and during peak tourism season in The Gambia, it feels like every single one of those readers has stepped foot in the village. The tour was conducted in English (a language spoken by everybody on the tour) and only had 7 people tasting at the same time instead of the 30-odd people at L.A.Cetto.

10 FUN THINGS TO DO IN WEST COAST SCOTLAND I was in my 30’s by the time I took my first trip to Scotland – quite an embarrassing confession given: a) Scotland is the neighbour of my native England; b) I didn’t need a passport (or even a flight) to get there; and c) I’d otherwise managed to take myself literally half way around the world (to Hong Kong, Cambodia, Vietnam and Australia) before I crossed the Scottish border. 20 TIPS FOR EATING OUT ALONE Actually, this applies to all eating out experiences – solo or not. But from an eating alone perspective, there is nothing to be gained from increasing your discomfort! 7. Promise yourself a low-stress reward. HOW TO DRINK TEQUILA LIKE A MEXICAN To drink, simply take a small sip of tequila straight and enjoy. If you feel the need as a new tequila drinker, you can try your tequila with some lime (called limon in Mexico) and some (finely ground) salt. After every sip or two, dip your wedge of lime into a small amount of salt and suck on it. GUIDE TO SWIMMING WITH WHALE SHARKS IN MEXICO Swimming with the whale sharks is a booming tourism industry in Mexico during the whale shark season and in the Yucatán peninsula the tours tend to head out from three spots – Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox. Options 1 and 2: Cancun and Isla Mujeres If you’re staying in Cancun or Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancun A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE: EATING KOBE BEEF IN JAPAN For a while, following the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Japan in 2010, all export of Kobe beef was stopped. Yes, you may have continued to see it on menus (Kobe sliders are a popular appetizer in the USA). However, much of that meat is actually faux-be beef, an imitation of the real deal, that prompted an interesting exposé byForbes.
