ART LESSONS: PERSPECTIVE DRAWING I showed students the very basics on Greek columns and architecture, and they took notes in their sketchbooks. The previous day we did 1pt. perspective with their name in block letters, kindergarten house (square under triangle) and a few other shapes. Then I asked students to create their own temple with columns of their choice. They drew the front, off to one side. VISUAL ARTS: ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN Visual Elements (the basic things that can be seen) 2. Design and Composition Principles (arranging the basic things better) 3. Visual Effects (ways to fool the eye - make an impression) An element is one of those most basic visible things. In science, the elements are on the periodic chart (hydrogen, iron, oxygen, gold, sulfur, etc.). SYMBOLISM OF COLOR: USING COLOR FOR MEANING Color symbolizes different things to various cultures and countries. This page is the most comprehensive list of color symbolism on the internet. BASIC ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN ASSESSMENT Delores designed this assessment for the staff of her district elementary schools to show them that they know a lot more about art than they may have thought. Since they have no art specialist at the elementary level, teaching art falls to the classroom teachers and they often lack the confidence to teach art because they don't think they know enough about it. ART LESSON: CREATING YOUR OWN CURRENCY DESIGN Alix taught shading/value with a project called "Super Bucks." Using Drawing Paper, the kids designed a piece of original currency. ART LESSONS: CREATING ZENTANGLES Zentangles® are a fun way to increase focus and creativity. Structured patterns are created from a mind that has been freed up from the cares of the world. The patterns that are created are whimsical in nature and have been used in art therapy as a way to relax and help with insomnia. ART LESSONS: PRINTMAKING FOR HIGH SCHOOLEASY PRINTMAKINGPRINTMAKING AT HOMEPRINTMAKING DESIGNS This is a group of art projects for the high school and middle school levels. I like to use printmaking in all levels of teaching trying, to include at least one type of printing in each year. I feel that anything that is pressed stamped or pushed onto another surface transferring that image to another is printmaking. LESSON PLAN: PABLO PICASSO LESSONS Pablo Picasso Lessons. Have some fun! Start with Greg Percy's song Picasso Polka - do a little dance too! "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." ~ Pablo Picasso. (Pablo Ruiz y Picasso), 1881-1973, Spanish painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and ceramicist who worked in France; the foremost figure in VISUAL ARTS: ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN Composition. The principles of design help you to carefully plan and organize the elements of art so that you will hold interest and command attention. This is sometimes referred to as visual impact. In any work of art there is a thought process for the arrangement and use of the elements of design. ART LESSON: CREATING YOUR OWN CURRENCY DESIGN Alix taught shading/value with a project called "Super Bucks." Using Drawing Paper, the kids designed a piece of original currency. They had to include blended shading, hatching, cross-hatching, scribble shading and pointillism. There had to be a continuous border, a motto, a portrait, and a denomination. This was all done in pencil. As a motivation, you can use Mona Bucks with this lesson. SYMBOLISM OF COLOR: USING COLOR FOR MEANING Color symbolizes different things to various cultures and countries. This page is the most comprehensive list of color symbolism on the internet. Find out what color means in various religions and emotions. HOW TO MAKE ART HISTORY FUN In my high school, students have a lot of fun with an un-birthday party. They randomly draw an artist's name from a "hat." They must look up this artist and read enough about him/her that they can come up with six items that would make good gifts for the artist. They wrap the six presents in a box that is constructed/painted in the artist'sstyle.
ART TESSELLATIONS
Definitions. "A tessellation is created when a shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps." "To form into a mosaic pattern, as by using small squares of stone or glass." [From Latin tessellātus, of small square stones, from tessella, small cube, diminutive of tessera, a square; see tessera. ART TEACHER ASSESSMENTS Art teachers are already ahead of the game with assessments. Most art teachers use competency-based and performance-based assessments. Assessments determine the success of your art program and your teaching method. Use the results of your assessments to drive your instruction. Make adjustments as needed as you go along. HIGH SCHOOL ART LESSONS Welcome to the home page of the high school level art lessons! Lessons are now categorized by grade level, subject, integration, art period, artist, and medium.
(Pablo Ruiz y Picasso), 1881-1973, Spanish painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and ceramicist who worked in France; the foremost figure in LESSON PLAN: MAGAZINE COVER DESIGN Magazine publishers, editors, and circulation directors know the importance of the cover image as both a newsstand impulse buy and as a brand. 80 percent of consumer magazines’ newsstand sales are determined by what is shown on the cover, a fact that can mean the difference between a magazine’s success or failure over time. 23 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE SISTINE CHAPEL The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel is one of the most famous frescoes in the world and unsurprisingly it’s one of Rome’s most visited and valued historic sites. Set within the Vatican City and Museums, the Sistine Chapel welcomes around 25,000 visitors a day who flock to see Michelangelo’s masterpiece and marvel at the feat of artistry. ART LESSON: WIRE NYLON STOCKING SCULPTURE Drill or have drilled two holes in each base. Have students bend off the top part of the hanger. Students then twist the hanger to make an interesting shape. Put hanger in a base. If there is a lot of resistance it is a good idea to change the shape. After hanger is in the base, look at hanger design from all sides. Make sure that hanger does NOT stick out bottom, or it will have to be cut off.LESSON PLANS

MONA LISA ART LESSON PLANS I first took a contour drawing of the Mona Lisa and copied enough for each student. We then talked about the right and left hemispheres of the brain and how the right is the creative side. The students should then turn the drawings upside down and cover 3/4 of the image with a sheet of construction paper.* Home
