UNCOVERING WHITE SUPREMACY CULTURE IN MUSEUM WORK White supremacy culture is the norm. It represents the prevailing way of thinking and it is normalized in our everyday interactions and museum culture. White supremacy culture is dominant in thinking, speaking, dressing, behaving, meeting styles, language, and communication. For those who challenge this norm, it takes courage,confidence
GENDER EQUITY AND MUSEUMS Since the Andrew W. Mellon Report came out we have been ruminating on what the findings indicate about inclusion in museums. We also wrote a recent piece which explored some of the current issues related to museum employment and labor. We worked with a wide array of neighborhood stakeholders and asked: What is VOICES FROM THE INCLUSEUM FORUM The Incluseum’s mission is to advance “new ways of being a museum through dialogue, community building and collaborative practice related to inclusion in museums.” But how have we been doing this over the last 8 years? One key way we have fostered this dialogue is by offering a forum for emerging voices and thought leaders to speak on the change they want to see take root across the FACTORIES OF STORIES Think about the most “iconic” and “untouchable” museum in Italy – the Uffizi Galleries – and you will perhaps unexpectedly run into a ground-breaking project: “Factories of Stories”. Back in 2016, a Cultural Mediation and Accessibility Unit was created at the Uffizi Galleries on the initiative of the Director, Eike Schmidt. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MONUMENTAL SCULPTURES BY BLACK ARTISTS by Radiah Harper Dedicated to Peter Alan Harper, who showed up when I was writing.
