Privata utförare står för 17% av de svenska välfärdstjänsterna. Vinstdrivande bolag i välfärden förekom redan på 1980-talet, men det var friskolereformen i början av 1990-talet som utgjorde den huvudsakliga inledningen på privatiseringen. Enligt IFN-forskaren Mårten Blix hade staten haft svårt att upprätthålla det sociala kontraktet om man inte öppnat upp för privatiserad välfärd.*

Små techbolag är bra på att ta fram ny miljövänlig teknik som ersätter gammal, medan stora bolag är bra på att förbättra befintlig teknik och göra den billigare och bättre ur miljösynpunkt. Vad är då bäst ur ett hållbarhetsperspektiv? Att de små företagen får sköta sig själva från idé till produktutveckling och marknad eller att de köps upp av storbolag? IFN:s nya forskningsprojekt ”Företagsformens betydelse för en hållbar strukturomvandling” har fått ett forskningsstöd på 1,8 miljoner kronor från Handelsbankens forskningsstiftelser för att undersöka frågorna.*

De allra flesta unga i Sverige har sommar-och extrajobb. Genom dessa extrajobb under skoltiden etableras personliga kontakter och det är vanligt att kontakterna är det som sedan gör att unga hittar sitt första varaktiga jobb efter gymnasiet. I 30 % av fallen leder det till anställning på den arbetsplats man tidigare har erfarenhet av. Det visar Dagmar Müller med sin forskning där hon tittat på elever på gymnasiets yrkesprogram. Hennes doktorsavhandling om kontakternas betydelse har omarbetats till en SNS Analys som presenterades vid ett webbinarium under tisdagen.*

Det har gått 14 år sedan IFN:s historiska projekt startades 2006. Syftet var att studera IFN:s forskning och övriga verksamhet från 1939 till nutid och att sätta in detta i en större, samhällelig kontext. 2012 skrev Anders Johnson boken _Building Bridges and Challenging Conventions – IFN 1939_–_2012_. Nu har boken uppdaterats av författaren och journalisten Elisabeth Precht, tidigare kommunikationschef på IFN.Se mer aktuellt

ASSAR LINDBECK 1930–2020 Assar Lindbeck avled den 28 augusti, vid 90 års ålder. Han var under många år professor och chef för Institutet för internationell ekonomi, IIES, vid Stockholms universitet. Sedan 1995 delade han sin tid mellan IFN och IIES och var fullt aktiv inom forskningen och samhällsdebatten fram till sin död. Hans betydelse för svensk nationalekonomisk forskning kan inte överskattas.Läs hela brevet
