_Learn the basics of macrame with these beginner-friendly macrame knots, and see how you can use them in your own macrame DIYs._ _Image by Fall for DIY_
It seems like a lot of times when I pop on here out of nowhere, it’s to say that I’m working on a super-secret collaboration. Well, surprise! I’m working on a super-secret collaboration. This one is really, really, really epic, and I cannot WAIT to tell you about it! Here’s a giant hint in the meantime: it involves macrame. I’m finally getting knotty! (Too much?) In anticipation of the macrame DIY that I’ll soon be able to share with you, today I’m going to round up the best tutorials on HOW TO TIE BEGINNER-FRIENDLY MACRAME KNOTS, and gorgeous projects you can make with them. Then, check back next week when I’ll be able to share my own project and my exciting news! BEGINNER-FRIENDLY MACRAME KNOTS HOW TO TIE A LARK’S HEAD KNOT: _Image by Made in a Day_
Every macrame project begins with a simple little loop known as the lark’s head knot. This attaches the macrame cords to…whatever they are being attached to. Rings, dowels, branches, hoops, etc. Made in a Day has a perfect explanation about how to make this easiest of knots, and then goes on to use it to make one of my favorite macrame DIYs, a boho hanging macrame mirror.

_Reduce your waste this Earth Day with these beautiful modern DIYupcycling ideas._
Dating myself again, but Captain Planet was my faaaaave when I was akid!
Fast-forward several decades, and I’ve been trying to be more mindful of how much waste I throw out, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite modern DIY upcycling ideas. Because Earth Day is nextweek, after all!
Creating art and crafts has always seemed worth it to me — worth the resources produced, worth the waste made. I don’t know if nature necessarily agrees. But we can at least _try _to craft by those three R’s they taught us in elementary school. These projects achieve all three! (Yep, it’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Pushing my glasses up higher onmy nose as I type).

DIY CLAY RAINBOW PHOTO HOLDER FOR THE MAKE IT CHALLENGE03.21.19
_Inside: display your favorite pics in a DIY clay rainbow photo holder, and find out how to participate in the Spring Make ItChallenge!_
When I was 12, my parents gave me my first camera. It was a pink plastic Fuji point-and-shoot film camera (I’m dating myself here), and I loved it. That camera went with me everywhere and started off the collection of thousands of negatives and prints I would create from grade school through college. And then came my DSLR and smartphone, AKA, the Death of Film Cameras. Just like that, I stopped printing pictures. My phone currently has 7,027 photos on it, and I have thousands more archived on my laptop and external hard drive. But hardly a print in sight! Guys, I’m sick of taking pictures and never looking at them again (or getting sucked into the mindless smartphone scrolling when I do). Maybe it’s due to my recent discovery of modern journaling andscrapbooking styles
,
but I want to print photos again! Who’s with me?? This FINALLY brings me to today’s DIY. If we’re going to have photo prints around, we’ve gotta have a cute way to display them. My DIY CLAY RAINBOW PHOTO HOLDER is the perfect solution to liberate your neglected photos from their digital prisons. It’s easy enough that you can make a whole batch, and cover your home in sweet little rainbows to show off all your favorite photographs.Read More

PRINTABLE DAILY HABIT TRACKER AND GOALS FOR 201902.05.19
_Inside: a PRINTABLE DAILY HABIT TRACKER that’s perfectly minimal and will help you stick to your 2019 goals._ Yes, I know, it’s February. Goals were so last month, right? Well you can always count on me to remind you that bloggers aren’t perfect, even if we do obsess over curating our Instagram feeds. If there’s anything I learned from my unintentional 5 month blogging hiatus, it’s that I need to set up a solid self-care foundation before ANYTHING else. Before trying to juggle my day job with freelance writing, blogging, dating, crafting, travel, and all the rest. Self. Care. First.Read More

DIY RATTAN PUMPKIN, OR, MILLENNIALS DON’T CARVE10.04.18
_It’s a pumpkin swap! I teamed up with three other blogging gals to show our takes on a modern trend pumpkin. (GUESS WHICH TREND I PICKED). Keep reading to see what we came up with!_ How many things can you cover with rattan? All of them. The answer is all of them. A funny side effect of being a blogger is that it makes you way more tuned in to trends. (I blame Pinterest). Hexagons, pineapples
, color-blocking
,
terrazzo
—I’ve
dabbled in all of these fads in the years since I started the blog. Hey, I have to make myself look cool somehow. But this rattan/cane trend. This is something special. Cane webbing is just so simple. And classic. And VERSATILE. The natural outcome of the Awesomeness that is Cane is that I have to put it on all of the things. Sorry, no choice in the matter. All this to say, I made a DIY RATTAN PUMPKIN and you can too! It’s stylish. It’s easy. And it follows the most important rule Pinterest has taught us about pumpkin decorating: never, EVER carve.
Speaking of not carving, when one of my blog friends suggested that we each take on a current design trend as a pumpkin decorating technique, I was obviously stoked and said yes right away. So, I’m VERY happy to be able to share the super stylish ideas from our ever on-point ringleader, Cat from Ctrl + Curate ; real-life crafting comrade, Faith of Design Fixation ; and newish-to-me, but very admired, Christina at Spatial Dwelling . Keep reading to find out how to make your own DIY rattan pumpkin, and catch my friends’ modern trend pumpkins at the end of the post!Read More
