OUR HISTORY
Our History. The ICCS was established in 1981 following an international conference on Canadian Studie s that had been organized by the Association for Canadian Studies in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting of the Learneds Societies in Halifax, N.S. Representatives from 9 regions of the world met on June 1st, 1981 and voted to create the International Council for Canadian Studies. MANDATE AND STRATEGIC PLAN Within this general mandate, the ICCS has identified three major objectives and priority areas: Promotion of scholarly activities -- To organize world-class scholarly activities and to contribute to the establishment and development of Canadian Studies in universities of all countries where there is a demonstrated interest. Creation of an PIERRE SAVARD AWARDS Pierre Savard Awards. Pierre Savard (1936-1998), well-known historian, Professor and Canadianist, has contributed greatly to the development of Canadian Studies. Le Conseil international d’études canadiennes (CIEC), créé en 1981, est un organisme sans but lucratif, composé de 23 associations membres et de 5 membres associés répartis dans 39 pays. Il est voué à la promotion et à l’appui de la recherche, de l’enseignement et des publications dans les domaines des études canadiennes à travers le monde. Le CIEC est dirigé par un Conseil d'administration, composé d'un administrateur de chacune des associations membres, des membres associés et d'un Comité exécutif élu de quatre personnes. Le Conseil d’administration se réunit une fois par année afin d’établir la planification, les orientations et les politiques générales du CIEC. Le réseau du CIEC rejoint plus de 7000 universitaires et chercheurs dans 70 pays. LE CIEC a administré plusieurs programmes pour le compte du Ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Commerce international. Il s'agit des Programmes d'études canadiennes. Le Conseil international d’études canadiennes a mis sur pied plusieurs activités et programmes en études canadiennes. La Revue internationale d’études canadiennes une revue bilingue, multidisciplinaire et évaluée par ses pairs, publie les dernières recherches en études canadiennes à travers le monde. La RIÉC est fière d'être la seule revue savante à rassembler les recherches universitaires menée à la fois par des Canadiens et des universitaires qui étudient le Canada de l'étranger.
