HOW TO: HOW THE SHIFT INTERRUPT SYSTEM WORKS The ONLY purpose of the shift interrupt system in the Mercruiser Alpha style outdrives is to get the drive out of gear (forward or reverse) when the engine is running and the boat is in the water with a load on the prop. Use a 12V test light, Attach the clip from the test light to the battery post and touch the probe of the light to each wire, when the light lights you have found your draw. SYMPTOMS OF BAD RECTIFIER? Simply touching the battery with the cables in the reverse order or hooking up a battery charger backwards will blow the diodes in the rectifier assy immediately. Symptoms of a low battery are that it simply will not crank the engine fast enough to have the stator engage the ignition properly. The fast idle may simply be a misadjusted

(s).

A failing stator, when it first starts to fail (melt down) will usually generate the proper voltage to power the powerpack (s) when cold. But as it heats up, a voltage drop will occur that causes

Since it is new technology I am wondering if I should wait to see how things pan out. My concerns include 1.) Is the boat too light vs. traditional fiberglass. 2.)
