When the brain is injured there may be dozens of symptoms of that injury. This makes sense because the brain runs everything. LATERALITY PROBLEMS IN BRAIN-INJURED CHILDREN These problems can affect reading, auditory competence, mobility, language, and manual ability, especially writing. Children should develop hemispheric dominance by the time they are six years of age, which is to say a child should be clearly right-sided or left-sided by then. WELL CHILDREN
Formal education often begins at six—but learning begins at birth or earlier. The first six years of life are much more important than we previously understood. During these early years, the brain is growing faster than it will ever grow again. Young children can learn absolutely anything that we can teach in an honest, factual, andjoyous way.
EARLY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS The younger a child is, the easier it is for the child to learn. Parents who understand early development are the very best teachers for their own children. The parent and child together are the most dynamic teaching and learning team. The family is the cradle for intellectual, physical, and social excellence inCOURSES & PROGRAMS
A Real Diagnosis. Children seldom arrive here with a real diagnosis. Instead, they have been given simple labels and a poor prognosis. After a careful evaluation, our children get an accurate diagnosis that states the area of the brain involved, the degree of injury and the extent of injury to brain.FURTHER PROGRAMS
The Lecture Series Program was developed for parents on the Intensive Treatment Program and is a vital part of that program. These are two-day lectures that encompass all the areas of child brain development. By attending these lectures, parents continue to gain knowledge of child brain development and apply this knowledge to theirchild at home.
UNDERSTANDING EARLY DEVELOPMENT Instead, brain growth and development are a dynamic and ever-changing process. The process of brain growth can be stopped, as it is in profound brain injury. The process can be slowed, as it is in moderate brain injury. Most significantly, though, this is a process that can be speeded up. All that we do to speed the process is to providevisual

MYTHS ABOUT READING
Myth #2 Teaching a child to read before school will make him a nasty little genius. Well, at least this myth acknowledges that children who learn to read when they are young will gain information and, as a result, have increased intellectual growth as compared with a child who is not given this opportunity. Formal education often begins at six—but learning begins at birth or earlier. The first six years of life are much more important than we previously understood. During these early years, the brain is growing faster than it will ever grow again. Young children can learn absolutely anything that we can teach in an honest, factual, andjoyous way.

The Institutes offers a clear path forward: our programs are designed to give parents the toolset, skills, and confidence they will need to guide their children’s growth and development. Our staff develops a close relationship with each family. We focus on results. We achieve those results with the following three key offerings: THE NEW PATHWAY TO WELLNESS The new expanded Pathway To Wellness has an introduction which gives an overview of the causes of injury and the symptomatic labels. Well, at least this myth acknowledges that children who learn to read when they are young will gain information and, as a result, have increased intellectual growth as compared with a child who is not given this opportunity. CREATE A BETTER FUTURE FOR YOUR CHILD We unlock more than 60 years of search and discovery in the development of the brain to help parents enrich the lives of theirchildren.
Hurt Children
Well Children
GIVING CHILDREN THE BEST START IN LIFE The capacity of the human brain is staggering and we use only a small percentage of it. Our work embraces all children from the well newborn to the child who may be struggling intellectually, physically or socially. For more than six decades we have studied the brain and gained a deeper understanding of brain development. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of all children by providing parents with the tools they need to make their children healthier, happier and muchmore capable
ALL CHILDREN HAVE POTENTIAL We believe all children have a right to be intellectually, physically and socially excellent. PARENTS ARE THE BEST TEACHERS When parents know how the brain grows, they can create an enriched environment at home for their children. THE BRAIN GROWS BY USE Parents learn appropriate, safe, enjoyable and effective ways to promote the growth of the brain. Our Approach
HELPING CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD The Institutes is internationally known for its pioneering work in child brain development. Our goal for every brain-injured child is to have a fighting chance to be well. Our goal for every well child is to have the opportunity to be intellectually, physically, and socially excellent—so they are able to follow their own path to achieve theirgoals in life.
Since we established the first Rehabilitation Center in 1955, we’ve realized those goals in our work with thousands of children from across the globe…and we continue our pioneering work to this day. About The Institutes > "The world has looked at brain growth and development as if it were > a predestined and unchangeable fact, instead brain growth and > development is a dynamic and ever-changing process." > - Glenn Doman DEVELOPMENTAL PROBLEMS ARE NOT FOREVER No matter how frightening the symptomatic label given to the child may be, thousands of parents have learned that the brain has tremendous plasticity. Our hurt kids get better – much better.Hurt Children
HELP YOUR WELL CHILD EXCEL Learning begins at birth or earlier. The first six years of life are the genesis of genius. The younger a child is, the easier it is to learn. Parents are the key.Well Children
PROGRAMS FOR HURT CHILDREN Our children arrive with symptomatic diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delay, epilepsy, attention deficit disorder, learning problems, dyslexia or one of many syndromes for genetic disorders that can cause neurological problems. Many parents are told that their child cannot be helped. Instead of receiving effective treatment, they are offered palliative care. We treat the brain, not the symptoms. This makes all the difference. Our parents have proven that hurt children have enormous potential.Courses & Programs
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENTA REAL DIAGNOSIS
When children come to us, they have often received a poor prognosis and symptomatic labels, but no real diagnosis. We give children an accurate diagnosis that states the area of the brain involved, the degree of injury, and the extent of injury to brain.DRUG-FREE TREATMENT
Some medications have a suppressive effect on the brain. A sedated child is not a healthy child. We use a program of stimulation and opportunity, not medications, to help the injured brain to mature and function more normally.UNIQUE PROGRAMMING
Each child is unique and requires a program designed for that child’s neurological condition and physiology. Our clinical team works tirelessly to create one-of-a-kind treatment program that is ideal for each child based on regular evaluations. > "The knowledge and change The Institutes program brought to our > lives has been the best thing. My son has changed dramatically; our > whole family and our lives have been transformed. We would not be > who we are today if not for this experience. My son is not the only > one in our family getting better, we all are." > - Mother, USA PROGRAMS FOR WELL CHILDREN We know that the potential of the child is huge. All parents want their children to have the best opportunity to realize that potential. How can parents use their child’s precious early years to thefullest?
We have spent the last 60 years with mothers and fathers discovering the best way to teach our parents how to provide a stimulating environment and enriched opportunities for their children to become intellectually, physically and socially capable and confident. When this happens our children can pursue their own path and achieve theirown goals.
Courses & Programs
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENTLEARNING IS PLAY
All human beings are learning throughout life. But learning is an inverse function of age. Tiny children learn at a rate that is truly astonishing, and they do so, without effort because learning is the highest form of play for a child. CHILDREN WANT TO LEARN Every waking moment the child is demanding information. The pressure on parents is relentless. It is easy to be overwhelmed. We give our parents the answers to feed their hungry students and to enjoy everyminute.
ABILITY IS THE GOAL
Little children are highly intelligent but they often spend the first six years being treated as if they are not. This can create frustration and upset. When parents understand what to do, the child’s abilities grow then frustration and upsets disappear. > "Doing the program is an incredible bonding process with your > children. I loved every moment of teaching them and seeing how it > changed their lives for the better. I could see that by instilling > the love of learning in my children, their opportunities in life > would be endless, that they could be anything they imagined as a > result. I’m happy to say that this has proven true over and over> again."
> - Mother and Ballerina, New JerseySUPPORT OUR MISSION
The Institutes is a nonprofit organization. We have survived because we have a program that really works, we work very hard, and because people of good will around the world have contributed to our work. We could not exist without this help. If you want to help give hurt children a fighting chance to be well, and well kids the chance to be highly capable and confident, then join our gentle revolution andcontribute.

This course gives a detailed map of the first twelve months of life and carefully guides mother and father through each stage. Parents learn how to evaluate their baby through The Institutes Developmental Profile. This gives each parent a clear picture of where the baby’s development is on track and where the baby may need more stimulation and opportunity. Parents quickly learn that development should not occur by accident but rather on purpose with a clear plan that works. This one-day course is designed for expectant parents and parents with newborns or babies up to 12 months of age. Parents have ample opportunity to ask their questions so that they feel confident at day’s end to create a wonderful home program to enrich the first twelve months of their baby’s life.
