ROUND PORT HEADER ON SQUARE PORT HEAD. The thing that got me started is when i went to buy a supposedly sqaure port header for my Z. It was in fact a round port, but had obviously been used on an earlier model head because the carbon on the header was sqaure. So i thought, why don't i use the round port header in my garage, it is 3 into 2 and bolts up to the piping i have. HOW TO: PAINT WITH TREMCLAD THE RIGHT WAY As requested by several people, so to save writing any more PMs I wanted to make a thread (hopefully sticky) on how its done to make it look good. Im only covering how to spray it on, the roller method is a waist of time. This works for more than just tremclad, any kinda of single stage paint app VENTING THE FUEL CELL WITHOUT FUMES What is the best way to vent the fuel cell without fumes. Ever since I installed the cell, the fumes in my garage are unbearable, unlike before. I DO NOT have a leak anywhere. I simply have it vented via a 90 degree fitting, to a rubber hose, to under the car. What about venting to a charcoal can CORRECT FUEL PSI FOR CARBED 350 I have a Carter 5 psi 72 gph electric fuel pump on my ZX, running the stock inlet line. STP OIL TREATMENT WITH ZINC....DON'T USE IT. For best protection use with every oil change. Can be used during oil change, or added in-between oil changes. Do not overfill. GASOLINE ENGINES (Cars & Light Trucks) 1996 and older – Add one bottle to engine crankcase. 1997 to 2004 – Add approximately ½ bottle (5.5ounces) to engine.
HOW LONG TO LET PAINT DRY BEFORE CLEAR COAT? I like overnight because it lets you pinstripe or tu-tone with a little extra safety factor. According to Duponts Tech Manual - drying time for basecoat when applying their hi-production 7500 series clears is only 15-30 minutes. Any painting I have done, I always let it cure for at least 24 hours. RUBBER UNDERCOATING OVER PRIMER???? The problem you may run into is the underbody rusting out underneath the undercoating if it is not specified to inhibit rust. Datsun undercoated the z's (sparingly though) on the bare metal and then painted over, which eventually rusted out when water got underneath. I'd recomend a good etching prime on the bare metal, or maybe acoating of

Think of what the forces are that your subframe is currently going to be experiencing. It isn't holding the engine up, so all it's doing now is dealing with the lateral forces of your rack and pinion, and bit of vertical force from the front suspension arm rotating in it on each side. Its also worth noting that I have confirmed that, when the MSD is wired as shown in the diagram (ie not directly wired to the battery as previously mentioned), this connection sees 12V when switched on and around 9.6v - 9.8v when cranking. The only parts you will have to remove from the S30 chassis is the hood latch to clear the intake manifold and trans mount to fit the 6 speed trans. If you use a spot weld cutter on these parts, you can weld them back on at a later date and have a stock 240z again. I knowbecause I
HOW LONG TO LET PAINT DRY BEFORE CLEAR COAT? One thing I've heard to be true when viewing this question from the other side of the coin is that you shouldn't wait too long either. My understanding (again with only the products I'm familar with) is that you cannot wait too long to clear-coat either. beyond a couple of days I believe the basecoat is set and must then be scuffed up or sanded again prior to the clear-coat. SPARK PLUGS HITTING HEADERS Posted March 22, 2012. Just swapped out my old 305 with a new 350. Problem is, the spark plugs are right up against my JTR headers and it's causing the plugs to heat up and arc. 509, 511, 817 BLOCK
The 509 is the one you want, early model 2 bolt block. The 511 is the 4 bolt block, also desireable, the 817 is the late model 2 bolt block. My understanding from a buddy that worked at the GM foundry for new prototype motors, Joe Rakov, said way back when that the 509 and the 511 is the same mold, which is why I guess alot of people put 4 bolt caps on the 509 blocks. What you want is an S13 lsd designed for the open diffed cars. Kaaz, Cusco, Tomei, Os Giken (Drooool, os giken), Carbonetics, Quaife (More droolage), Obx- The options are ridiculously endless. Personally I think you'd be better TIRE WIDTH COMPARED TO HORSEPOWER? The tilt would put the shifter coming through the side of the trans tunnel, basically stabbing the driver in the knee, if they are built like I am. It is about 20 degrees off, so you do need to do the KA to L Bell swap for the manual trans. For the auto, I really dont know howmuch tilt the auto

REMOVING OLD HOLLEY CARB GASKETS, IS THERE AN EASIER WAY Everytime I rebuild a holley carb the gaskets are stuck on really bad. Is there an easier way to get them off. CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IN A 240Z I've found it easiest to refill from above via the engine compartment. Get 2 feet of ~ 1/2" clear tubing at Lowes/HD. GAUGE OF SHEETMETAL?? What gauge is the sheet metal on a 73 240. Im about to start my body work and it requires the cutting a replacing of some small areas of rust. My understanding from a buddy that worked at the GM foundry for new prototype motors, Joe Rakov, said way back when that the 509 and the 511 is the same mold, which is why I guess alot of people put 4 bolt caps on the 509 blocks. WEIGHT OF L28 ENGINE? When I did my swap, I felt the L28T and GN were about even and after the same type of question was posted on a Buick forum, it was reported that the Buick was 394lbs w/o the turbo. Nice question For circuit work using 8" wide rims I've found 225 medium compound R tyres fine, thats with the S30 and say 250whp and turbo torque. For ordinary road use 7" rims with say 205 tyres would be fine. Taking into account the practical limitations imposed by the authorities and car manufacturers, for circuit work I'd go for the widest that will fit.
