STRATEGIC EXE WEIRS
Strategic Exe Weirs aims to improve migratory access for native fish species by delivering bespoke fish passage projects at multiple sites. It is the goal of each project to enable free migration in wider flow windows to counter the effects of climate change on river flows, and help enhance the wider ecological health of the River Exe. Established in 1995 it aims to preserve, protect, develop and improve the region’s watercourses, while educating people about the value of this natural resource. TAMAR WATER STEWARDSHIP BUSINESS BOARD The current membership of the Tamar Water Stewardship Business Board includes ABP, Kepak, Premier Foods, Saputo Dairy UK, Arla, and South West Water. We operate as a technical secretariat, providing local input, technical knowledge and practical experience. The media spotlight on plastic pollution in recent years has translated into an urgent call for action by the public, policy makers and industry. While the ubiquity of microplastic pollution within marine ecosystems is widely recognised (Law and Thompson, 2014), less attention has focussed on plastic materials transported from rural catchment sources to rivers (Windsor et al., 2019). You can start a walk at the old granite clapper bridge to discover the wonderful flora, fauna and wildlife, including the otter, to be found in the woodlands. WESTCOUNTRY ANGLING PASSPORT Under the Westcountry Angling Passport Scheme we have developed a series of introductory iGillie films. iGhillie instructional film clips are unique in that they allow prospective anglers to get a feel for fishing a beat from their home. The clips also lead the angler through how best to approach the beat in question, the best techniques to use and the main areas to concentrate on. RIVER EXE | WESTCOUNTRY RIVERS TRUST The name “Exe” is thought to stem from the Latin take on the Brittonic word ‘isca.’. This translates either as ‘water’ or ‘abounding in fish’. Stara Woods. A babbling brook cascades it way through the beautiful Stara Woods to join the River Lynher. You can start a walk at the old granite clapper bridge to discover the wonderful flora, fauna and wildlife, including the otter, to be found in the woodlands. The Westcountry Rivers Trust investigated five key catchments across Devon and Cornwall to identify priority areas for protection of water courses, to restore water quality. These areas; The Upper Fowey, Roadford, Wimbleball, The Tamar (north of the A30) and Upper Tamar WESTCOUNTRY ANGLING PASSPORT Under the Westcountry Angling Passport Scheme we have developed a series of introductory iGillie films. iGhillie instructional film clips are unique in that they allow prospective anglers to get a feel for fishing a beat from their home. The clips also lead the angler through how best to approach the beat in question, the best techniques to use and the main areas to concentrate on.
