Eighty-five years ago, a group of music enthusiasts meeting in Woodstock convinced each other that they could create a statewide orchestra. At their center was a young conductor named Alan Carter, fresh from musical

studies abroad.

Over the winter, five Vermont Symphony Orchestra musicians took on new young music students from Brattleboro, Ferrisburgh, Colchester, Bolton, and Richmond via weekly Zoom lessons, supported by funds from the Tarrant Foundation. The musicians and their students developed strong relationships and made beautiful music

summer.

SUNDAY MATINEE SERIES FEATURING JOSEPH KALICHSTEIN A legendary piano soloist visits Vermont for our March concert: Joseph Kalichstein, performing Beethoven’s second piano concerto. The program begins with a musical love note that Mahler wrote for his wife, Alma. Following the piano concerto, the program closes with the last symphony Mozart ever wrote, Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter.”. MASTERWORKS FEATURING RAN DANK The recipient of numerous honors, Ran Dank won a coveted place on the Young Concert Artists roster in 2009 and subsequently made his New York recital debut sponsored by YCA and the Jerome L.Greene Foundation at Merkin Hall December 14, 2009. With around 40 annual performances statewide in concert halls, beautiful natural settings, and historic and community buildings, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra has proven its value and sustainability, not only as the nation’s oldest state-assisted orchestra, but as one of the finest of its size. In addition to concert programming, SymphonyKids presentations reach thousands of Vermont’s elementary and middle school students annually. The VSO serves year round with outreach programs and children’s concerts, as well as choral and chamber music concerts. Learn more about the VSO
