BENJAMIN GROSVENOR, PIANO Benjamin Grosvenor makes his UMS debut two years after it was originally scheduled and then postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Grosvenor first came to prominence as the winner of the Keyboard Final of the 2004 BBC Young Musician Competition when he was just 11. No longer a prodigy at age 28, he leaves ecstatic audiences in his wake wherever he performs, with playing reminiscent of

Completed in 1913, the renowned concert hall was inaugurated at the 20th Ann Arbor May Festival, and has continued to be the site of thousands of concerts, featuring everyone from Leonard Bernstein and JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA WITH WYNTON MARSALIS Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bring their fun, one-of-a-kind holiday extravaganza to brighten up the holiday season. They celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with seasonal confections that put the heart and soul into the holidays. With fresh arrangements, playful improvisation, and abundant good cheer, their big band arrangements of songs both sacred and secular LEONARD BERNSTEIN’S IMPACT: ONSTAGE AND AROUND THE WORLD Leonard Bernstein revolutionized the role of a conductor not only in the world at large, due to his passionate involvement with social justice issues and his belief that through music peace and understanding could be achieved, but also with his approach to musical interpretation and performance, as demonstrated in the relationships he forged with his musicians. Created by circus performers Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone, in collaboration with kinetic sculptor Daniel Wurtzel, Air Play was devised through ABOUT – UMS – UNIVERSITY MUSICAL SOCIETY With a program steeped in music, dance, and theater, UMS contributes to a vibrant cultural community by presenting approximately 60-75 performances and over 100 free educational activities each season. Five days later, when Matt passed away, the world was watching. Approaching the eve of the 20th anniversary, Craig Hella Johnson has responded with his first concert-length work, Considering NATIONAL ARAB ORCHESTRA (UMS DIGITAL PRESENTATION) This digital offering was filmed at the Ithra Theatre in Saudia Arabia in 2019 by the National Arab Orchestra and features music made famous by two outstanding female singers, Asmahan and Umm Kulthum, who catalyzed a period of creative vibrancy in Egypt during the middle of the 20th century.
