UP NEXT IN OUR RAIL YARD RETURN TO FULL CAPACITY On Saturday, May 29, we have plenty of tickets available for 5 rides, starting at 11:30 am and leaving every 90 minutes until 5:30 pm. During June, July and August we have one Saturday and one Sunday ride day each month (with multiple rides) as well as 10:30 am rides on one Wednesday and one Friday each month. COVID-19 safety measuresimplemented
last year will be revised, starting with our May 29 ride. As a result of changes to State of North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines, as well as CDC guidance, we have removed capacity limits on our open-air passenger cars. Each open-air car has approximately 30 unreserved bench seats, seating two people each. All seats will now be available for purchase. HOWEVER, ALTHOUGH THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA HAS RELAXED ITS MASK REQUIREMENTS, THE TSA AND THE FEDERAL RAILWAY ADMINISTRATION (FRA) STILL CURRENTLY REQUIRE MASKS FOR PASSENGERS AND CREW ON RIDING ON TRAINS, INCLUDING HERITAGE RAILWAYS SUCH AS OURS. Family cabooses may still be reserved for a family group. Our Operate-a-Loco experiences for June and July are sold out, but times are available in August and later months. To purchase tickets for our rides, please see our ticket calendar Buy Tickets . Please visit our schedule page to review our other scheduled 2021 ride dates. Choose your ride day or month, select a departure time, then ‘Buy Tickets’. OUR FAMILY CABOOSES SELL OUT QUICKLY, SO IF A RIDE DOES NOT SHOW A CABOOSE IS AVAILABLE, IT HAS ALREADY BEEN SOLD. The price for a Family Caboose is $100 for up to ten passengers. Tickets for our Track or Treat: Halloween Express rides and Santa’s Reindeer Roundup Express rides are not yet available for purchase and will be added to the ‘Buy Tickets Calendar’ this summer. Please check here or on our Facebook page for any updates orchanges.
Please read the important ride info on our Plan Your Visitpage to make your
trip comfortable and memorable. Currently, our No. 17 steam locomotive is undergoing regularly scheduled repairs to maintain safety and compliance. In the meantime, all trains are pulled by vintage diesel-electric locomotives followed by four open-air passenger carsand a caboose.
We appreciate your patronage, donations, and support in 2020. We took precautions to protect our volunteers and visitors and will continue to do so during the pandemic. The museum and trains are operated and maintained 100 percent by volunteers, passionate to preserve and share railroad history. For more information on some of our volunteers, see Tracking Our Volunteers.
HELP SAVE THE TEN & PRESERVE NC RAIL HISTORY Our latest project is to save ten historic railway cars currently parked at the Shearon Harris Power Plant, including four currently owned by us and six cars that Duke Energy is willing to donate to us. In addition to having historical significance, two cars are cabooses that could be added to our train relatively quickly to add capacity.
