INSTALLING LINUX ON A MACBOOK AIR (4,2) These are my first impressions of the Archlinux installation on the MacBook Air (4,2). General impression. The installation feels pretty rough, very much like the installation to a PPC based iBook some years ago: A lot of stuff is still different from a usual PC, there is no intuitive debugging on bootup, the keyboard and trackpad works differently, etc. etc. SOLUTION FOR POSTFIX WITH POSTGRES: SASL ERROR Some hints and at the end my final solution: make sure postfx can connect to the postgresql database. check one, two and three times that pg_hba.conf is right. try to login manually via psql. check postgresql logs, raise debuglevels, add log_connections = on and log_statement = 'all'. make sure you do not have whitespaces at theend of /etc
HOW TO ACCESS GLUSTER FROM MULTIPLE NETWORKS On the vm hosts we created entries in /etc/hosts using cdist that looks as following: 192.168.0.1 vmhost1 192.168.0.2 vmhost2. Now we re-created the volume using. gluster volume create xfs-plain replica 2 transport tcp vmhost1:/home/gluster vmhost2:/home/gluster gluster volume start xfs-plain. We noticed that the nginx logfile is not being rotated on some freshly setup Centos 6.2 servers, which should have been triggered by logrotate running from cron. The used cron implementation is cronie together with anacron. Background. I first suspected the setup being broken due permissions issues with cronie, which requires special permissions as found in the CAVEATS section of REBOOT LINUX IF TASK BLOCKED FOR MORE THAN N SECONDS Setting up the sysctl kernel.panic to a value greater than 0 tells the kernel to reboot after that amount of seconds after a panic. Furthermore the default timeout after a task is considered hanging is 120 seconds, which my users would like increase to 5 minutes. Thus the full sysctl setup to make a Linux system reboot after a process hungfor

NICO SCHOTTELIUS' BLOG The firewall explained: IPv4. In the IPv4 irea (" table ip filter *) things are quite similar with some small differences: I don't provides services on IPv4 besides ssh and wireguard (port 22 and 51820) There is nothing to be forwarded for IPv4, all containers use IPv6. Same logic for the output as in IPv6. GPM2 - NICO SCHOTTELIUS gpm2. You know, gpm is a hack. The idea of gpm2 is to be a nicer hack: Support multiple mice. Do not draw stuff, but write gpm2 client to do so (os/terminal specific stuff) Usable under different OS. Modular design, easy way to add new mice protocols. DO NOT MAKE YOUR SOFTWARE RELY ON SYSTEMD TL;DR Do not make your software rely on systemd. Introduction. There is some software out there that is leaning towards requiring systemd. This will render that software unusable on non-systemd Linuxdistributions.
LINUX ON THE LENOVO X201 Arch has an easy integration of crypttab into the boot process, but there are two drawbacks: And the keyboard layout is loaded after I was asked for the passphrase of the crypted devices. At the end, Archlinux installed fine on the X201 and I keep on using it, to give the distribution in general a try. RUBY ON RAILS: FIX THE HOSTNAME DOES NOT MATCH THE SERVER The problem. If you encounter this problem when running Ruby on Rails: OpenSSL::SSL::SSLError (hostname "localhost" does not match the servercertificate)
