Panicum maximum is a perennial, tufted grass with a short, creeping rhizome. The stems of this robust grass can reach a height of up to 2 m. As the stems bend and nodes touch the ground, roots and new plants are formed. The leaf sheaths are found at the bases of the stems and are covered in fine hairs. It remains green until late into winter. ENCEPHALARTOS LEHMANNII Distribution and habitat. Distribution description. This plant is endemic to the interior of Eastern Cape in South Africa where it grows in the catchments of several rivers. Its habitat is semi-arid with an annual rainfall around 250 - 350 mm. Rain falls mainly in summer, but rainfall is very erratic and this cycad can survive prolongeddroughts.

The genus is named after the Rev. There are seven species of Buddleja in South Africa. They are mostly shrubby and can sometimes become small trees. OXALIS | PLANTZAFRICA Oxalis, established by Linnaeus in 1753, is characterized by stem-less (acaulescent) or stemmed (caulescent) herbs or sub-shrubs with corms.This genus is the only one of the dicotyledonous genera to produce corms (tuberous bulb-like rootstocks). The species are perennials and low-growing, reaching heights varying from 0.05 to 0.3m.
PELARGONIUM CAPITATUM Pelargonium capitatum is a shrubby or bushy, low-growing plant. It grows to a height of ± 0.3 m and about 1.5 m wide. The sprawling or erect stems of the plant are soft-wooded. Individual side branches can grow to a length of 0.6 m. The stems and leaves are sweetly scented when bruised, and are covered with long, soft hairs of variabledensity.

Tecomaria capensis is widely cultivated and very easy to propagate from cuttings or by removing rooted suckers or runners during the active growth phase. This is a very hardy, adaptable, relatively slow-growing cycad and suited to temperate and subtropical regions. It is best not planted too closely to paths, requires full sun and excellent drainage, not too much water; tolerates light to moderate frosts and needs slightly acidic soil. Panicum maximum is a perennial, tufted grass with a short, creeping rhizome. The stems of this robust grass can reach a height of up to 2 m. As the stems bend and nodes touch the ground, roots and new plants are formed. The leaf sheaths are found at the bases of the stems and are covered in fine hairs. It remains green until late into winter. ENCEPHALARTOS LEHMANNII Distribution and habitat. Distribution description. This plant is endemic to the interior of Eastern Cape in South Africa where it grows in the catchments of several rivers. Its habitat is semi-arid with an annual rainfall around 250 - 350 mm. Rain falls mainly in summer, but rainfall is very erratic and this cycad can survive prolongeddroughts.
BUDDLEJA AURICULATA
The genus is named after the Rev. Adam Buddle (1660-1715), an English botanist, and auriculata means having an ear-like appendage and refers to the stipule between the leaves which resembles a small ear. There are seven species of Buddleja in South Africa. They are mostly shrubby and can sometimes become small trees. OXALIS | PLANTZAFRICA Oxalis, established by Linnaeus in 1753, is characterized by stem-less (acaulescent) or stemmed (caulescent) herbs or sub-shrubs with corms.This genus is the only one of the dicotyledonous genera to produce corms (tuberous bulb-like rootstocks). The species are perennials and low-growing, reaching heights varying from 0.05 to 0.3m.
PELARGONIUM CAPITATUM Pelargonium capitatum is a shrubby or bushy, low-growing plant. It grows to a height of ± 0.3 m and about 1.5 m wide. The sprawling or erect stems of the plant are soft-wooded. Individual side branches can grow to a length of 0.6 m. The stems and leaves are sweetly scented when bruised, and are covered with long, soft hairs of variabledensity.
TECOMARIA CAPENSIS
Tecomaria capensis is widely cultivated and very easy to propagate from cuttings or by removing rooted suckers or runners during the active growth phase. The Compton Herbarium is located in the Kirstenbosch Research Centre at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Rhodes Avenue, Newlands, Cape Town. The building is situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, just below patches of fine afromontane forest. Together with the mountain it provides an impressive backdrop. The name Loxostylis is derived from the Greek loxos meaning'crooked' or 'oblique', and the Latin stylis for style, a referenceto the lateral attachment of the style to the ovary. The specific name is based on the Latin alatus meaning 'winged', referring to the winged rachis of the leaf.. The common name tarwood presumably refers to the oily residue from the fruits, which was possibly used as WIDDRINGTONIA CEDARBERGENSIS The genus Widdringtonia was named after Edward Widdrington, a Royal Navy captain and a conifer botanist of the late 1700s and early 1800s, who published a book on European pines. The species name cedarbergensis means 'of the Cederberg'. There are three species of Widdringtonia, namely W. nodiflora (= W. cupressoides and W. dracomontana), the mountain cedar, W. schwarzii, the Willowmore cedar ENCEPHALARTOS HORRIDUS Growing Encephalartos horridus. This is a very hardy, adaptable, relatively slow-growing cycad and suited to temperate and subtropical regions. It is best not planted too closely to paths, requires full sun and excellent drainage, not too much water; tolerates light to moderate frosts and needs slightly acidic soil.
