Duncan Phillips (1886-1966) was the son of Major Duncan Clinch Phillips, a Pittsburgh businessman and Civil War veteran, and Eliza Laughlin Phillips, whose father was a banker and co-founder of Jones and Laughlin Steel

CENTENNIAL CAMPAIGN

Duncan Phillips, who founded The Phillips Collection in 1921, held fast to his vision to create joyful experiences through art. It was his life’s work to harness the power of these experiences to transform his community for the better. As stewards of his legacy, we are dedicated to preserving his pioneering spirit and mission by extending the transformative power of art into a new era.

In 1940-41 he painted 60 panels depicting the realities of this migration. PRESS ROOM | THE PHILLIPS COLLECTION Are you looking for press images, press kits, or to request an interview? In 1951, Phillips mounted a solo exhibition of her work at the museum, and from it he purchased his first MacIver CONVERSATION WITH COLLECTORS: A TRIBUTE TO ROSALIND As part of our centennial celebration, join The Phillips Collection for the launch of a series of programs that explore what drives collectors and how they build their collections.
