What is Genomics? Every living organism has DNA – a code that directs its biological functions and influences how it grows and interacts with the environment. Genomics is the science of understanding, interpreting and harnessing this DNA code to create real-world solutions. Recent advances in our ability to quickly and inexpensively sequence STAFF - ONTARIO GENOMICS Ontario Genomics is made up of a dynamic and highly experienced team. Our staff brings deep expertise across the life sciences sector, with backgrounds in public and private sector research spanning academic settings, upstart biotechnology companies and major pharmaceutical corporations, finance and commercialization, bioethics, education andcommunications.
TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS Ontario Genomics facilitates access to genomics technologies to support the genomics research community. Ontario Genomics has historically funded several primary genomics and proteomics platform technology services utilizing Genome Canada funds, service revenues, the Ontario government (MRI-ORF, ORDCF, OIT, etc.) and other funderssuch as CFI.

SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY
Synthetic biology is an emerging branch of genomics encompassing tools and methodologies to write DNA (instead of the traditional branch which encompasses tools and methodologies to read or sequence DNA). Synthetic biology tools allow for the building of simple organisms or “biological apps” to make manufacturing more green, energy production more sustainable, agriculture more robust ONTARIO'S STRATEGIC OPPORTUNITY Ontario’s agriculture and agri-food sector is large and highly diverse. At $37.6B 1, it accounts for approximately one third of the total GDP generated by the sector in Canada.. One in every eight jobs in Ontario currently comes from the agriculture and agri-food sector which includes input and service suppliers, primary agricultural producers, industrial bioproducts manufacturers THE PRESENT AND FUTURE STATE OF SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY IN Synthetic biology: biotech, the next generation Synthetic biology, in the broadest sense, creatively combines biology and engineering to produce innovations across multiple sectors. This multidisciplinary field of science and technology promises to unlock new solutions to some of the world’s most vexing problems, from food security to climate change to cancer treatment.
