Originally established in 1826 as the country’s first Infantry School of Practice, Jefferson Barracks received its name in honor of President Thomas Jefferson who had died earlier that MISSOURI CIVIL WAR MUSEUM The Civil War Preservation Fund was created by the Missouri Civil War Museum for the purpose of allocating funding to specific preservation activities regarding historic buildings and properties, Civil War battlefields, and Civil War-related monuments, memorials, and structures. The Civil War Preservation Fund is a restricted fund that cannot be utilized for any other purpose MISSOURI CIVIL WAR MUSEUM The Missouri Civil War Museum offers year-round unpaid internships for high school and college students interested in History, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, Marketing, Library Science, or other related fields. MISSOURI CIVIL WAR MUSEUM Located just a few miles south of the City of St. Louis, Missouri, the Jefferson Barracks Military Post is the oldest operational military installation west of the Mississippi River. Originally established in 1826 as the country’s first Infantry School of Practice, Jefferson Barracks received its name in honor of President Thomas Jefferson who had died earlier that MISSOURI CIVIL WAR MUSEUM The Missouri Civil War Museum offers year-round unpaid internships for high school and college students interested in History, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, Marketing, Library Science, or other related fields. MISSOURI CIVIL WAR MUSEUM The Civil War Preservation Fund was created by the Missouri Civil War Museum for the purpose of allocating funding to specific preservation activities regarding historic buildings and properties, Civil War battlefields, and Civil War-related monuments, memorials, and structures. Through the weapons, equipment, items, and uniforms of those who lived during our nation’s defining moment in history, we aim to tell their story in an unbiased interpretation. SEE OUR NEWEST EXHIBITS The Missouri Civil War Museum opened two new exhibits, Jefferson Barracks: Through the Years and Hollywood and the Civil War! Our new Jefferson Barracks exhibit tells the story of the men who served here and the role the base has had in American history. Through a stunning ten-minute film, the history of Jefferson Barracks come to life on screen and shows the deeper meaning of a place where so many heroes enlisted, trained, and are buried. Their uniforms, equipment, and stories line the walls of our exhibit. The Hollywood and the Civil War exhibit shows off some of the unforgettable Civil War-themed films of the last century.
