CAMP YOU B YOU SLEEPAWAY CAMP You B You Sleepaway Camp is a week-long camp for children ages 8-16 with autism who present with high functioning skills. Camp allows for children with autism to participate in traditional camp activities in an accepting and supported environment. HELPING YOUR CHILD COMMUNICATE Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) learn best during everyday activities and interactions, such as riding in the car to school, eating a family meal or going to the grocery store.. During daily activities, parents can provide language-learning opportunities and promote social communication skills. In fact, research has shown that when parents learn specific strategies to promote WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR CHILD ELOPES How to prevent elopement. Put locks on doors and windows that your child cannot unlock. If you use a key to lock windows and doors, ensure the key is easily accessible to adults in case of an emergency. Install alarms so you are alerted if your child has opened a door or window. Have your child wear a device that allows you to track her

In fact, research has shown that when parents learn specific strategies to promote CRISIS PREVENTION PROGRAM The Crisis Prevention Program was developed at Marcus Autism Center by a team of licensed psychologists, physical therapists, behavior and mental health experts, and behavior analysts who work with children and adolescents who engage in severe problem behavior. The system was developed out of high demand for effective and safe crisis management LANGUAGE AND LEARNING PROGRAM Our intervention sessions include a combination of: Teaching skills in simple and structured ways. Building teachable moments into everyday activities. Addressing barriers to learning. Training parents to engage in skill building with their child. These proven methods ESTABLISHING ROUTINES AT HOME Children thrive on routine. All children learn best from repetition, and children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) especially appreciate predictability and patterns. Establishing routines at home can promote positive bonds between children and caregivers AUTISM & BILINGUALISM At Marcus Autism Center, we’re taking steps to help support bilingual patients and families. We conduct diagnostic evaluations in the native language of the family with an interpreter or a bilingual psychologist. We provide interpreters for clinical care. We have print resources and educational information in multiple languages available. TIPS FOR FLYING WITH A CHILD WHO HAS AUTISM Air travel can be difficult for seasoned adult travelers and even more taxing for children. For kids with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who bring their own unique sensitivities to airports and flying, the experience can be even more difficult.. At Marcus Autism Center, we understand the special needs of children with autism. EATING HABITS: WHEN TO WORRY Mealtime problems are common in young children and can include: Fluctuating hunger. Picky eating. Unwillingness to try new foods. Strong food preferences. Even though picky eating is a common problem, research suggests that it’s usually a temporary and normal part of development.
