TUNING DCOE CARBURETOR Start with 5 degrees more, you may end up with 10 degrees more. Finally, set your idle mixture. Maximize RPM with the idle mixture screws, then reduce idle speed to 850-1000 (lowest smooth idle speed) with the idle speed adjustment screw. Second remove each headlamp vacuum unit and test by putting a little air pressure and submerging in bucket of water. Third bypass vacuum switch at dashboard. On my 151s the rim of the jet cover is 16mm above the float chamber top so I measure 41mm down from there. I remove one of the main jets and use an ordinary TWIN CAM - CAM COVER : ENGINE / EXHAUST / COOLING BY Just tighten it evenly enough to partially compress the gasket and leave it at that. Just try and get the needles down by visually comparing the change against the gauge. 5-SPEED GEARBOXES. : DRIVE TRAIN / GEARBOX / FINAL DRIVE 1) Gearstick in good condition, especially the lower ball. 2) Reduce the 5th gear detent pressure. 3) Use a good gear oil like Redline MTL. 4) Ensure the clutch is operating correctly and no drag. 5) ensure the internal alignment of the shift mechanism is good. 1), 2) and 3) can easily be done with th gearbox in the car. ANTI ROLL BAR DIAMETER : BODY / CHASSIS / FRAME BY My S2 has a 5/8” bar as well and this is the stock diameter, I think. I also think that the 5/8 and 11/16 ARB bushings are interchangeable - perhaps you got a bushing for a 3/4” diameter bar (which was standard on the Plus 2 I believe)? If the shoulder is hidden then it's more tricky. Just try and get the needles down by visually comparing the change against the gauge. 5-SPEED GEARBOXES. : DRIVE TRAIN / GEARBOX / FINAL DRIVE 1) Gearstick in good condition, especially the lower ball. 2) Reduce the 5th gear detent pressure. 3) Use a good gear oil like Redline MTL. 4) Ensure the clutch is operating correctly and no drag. 5) ensure the internal alignment of the shift mechanism is good. 1), 2) and 3) can easily be done with th gearbox in the car. ANTI ROLL BAR DIAMETER : BODY / CHASSIS / FRAME BY My S2 has a 5/8” bar as well and this is the stock diameter, I think. I also think that the 5/8 and 11/16 ARB bushings are interchangeable - perhaps you got a bushing for a 3/4” diameter bar (which was standard on the Plus 2 I believe)? On inspection it appears the spring at the other end of the cable (by the carburetors) is dead and the small piece of brass (sorry don't know the name.) holding the gainter in place is shattered. If the shoulder is hidden then it's more tricky. Just try and get the needles down by visually comparing the change against the gauge. REAR ANTI-ROLL BAR? : SUSPENSION / STEERING / BRAKES That is probably why you are noticing more roll in corners. Spyder offers larger front bars, as does TT as mentioned by Gary. Although, in theory, with the higher cornering limits allowed by modern tires would suggest larger front anti-roll bars and a small rear anti-roll bar, many people seem to live without a rear one. Torquing Technical - Lotus 1558cc Twin Cam Rebuild. Martin Lucas. The Lotus 1558 Twin Cam engine was fitted to many Lotus, and non Lotus cars. The engine was phased out in approximately 1975. Unfortunately these engines are no longer in their prime, and being of a "sporting" configuration most have not led a sedate life. The only thing I can add is the the manual quotes a single clearance for inlet as 0.005 to 0.007, but for exhaust the clearance is 0.006 to 0.008 up to engine number 9951, and 0.009 to 0.011 for later engines. Miles Wilkins mentions this difference in the section about Engine Assembly, but only quotes the THROTTLE CABLE : FUEL SYSTEM / CARBS BY LOTUSELAN.NET The throttle cable on my 1968 +2 (UK drive) has gone loose from the pedal. On inspection it appears the spring at the other end of the cable (by the carburetors) is dead and the small piece of brass (sorry don't know the name.) holding the gainter in place is shattered. TUNING DCOE CARBURETOR Start with 5 degrees more, you may end up with 10 degrees more. Finally, set your idle mixture. Maximize RPM with the idle mixture screws, then reduce idle speed to 850-1000 (lowest smooth idle speed) with the idle speed adjustment screw. Tweak the idle mixture screws again at this speed. To reduce variability, use Wide Open Throttle wherever possible, make your runs on level ground, and do multiple runs in both directions. DOOR LATCH, LOCK, HANDLE ASSEMBLY : BODY / CHASSIS / FRAME Bryn, can you remind folks year & model if required? I may be taking the door panels off (again) for a minor issue next week. Mine is a Federal '69 build date with the lock barrel separate from the doorhandle assembly.

Sounds like this is a Federal engine with "fixed" needle carbs - WHICH SOLID DRIVESHAFT CONVERSION? : DRIVE TRAIN / GEARBOX I have fitted the R D Enterprises CV kit to my +2. I looked at everything I could find on the market and this one won out for me because it integrates the diff output shaft into the drive line, rather than retaining what becomes a redundant joint between o/p shaftand first cv joint.
REAR ANTI-ROLL BAR? : SUSPENSION / STEERING / BRAKES Any opinions, based upon experience, of fitting an anti-roll bar to the rear of a +0? I've got Spyder chassis, Spyder twin wishbone rear, Susan Miller drive shafts, TTR adjustable springs and shox but can't help feeling that the back end is rolling too much in slower corners. Apart from that it rides and handles like the cat's pyjamas.
