KIDS AGAINST PLASTICLEARNDOMAPBLOGSHOPDONATE H ello! We’re Amy and Ella Meek, aged 17 and 15, and the founders of Kids Against Plastic!. Not long ago we came across the UN’s Global Goals and got inspired to do our bit for the planet, and after finding out about the negative effect single-use plastic is having on the environment, we launched the Kids Against Plastic campaign.. Our charity has three main aims that we hope to achieve DO | KIDS AGAINST PLASTIC Ell2_m33k | Do, Learn. One of the solutions to the plastic problem is Youth Social Action - engaging and activating a generation of young people to make a stand against issues they are not happy with, and doing something to improve them. LEARN | KIDS AGAINST PLASTIC Climate change is the long-term shift in average weather patterns across the world. Humans have contributed to the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the air through a range of practices, including burning fossil fuels, driving vehicles orindustry.
LESSON PLANS & RESOURCES B efore we can expect anyone to protect the natural world, we need help them learn to love it first. Ideally, that would be done through first-hand experiences, but for obvious reasons that can be quite tricky! The Plastic Clever mindset is a ‘way of thinking’ as much as anything else. It’s about being cleverer with our use of plastic; a material that has been made to literally last forever, and yet it’s used everyday in millions of single-use plastic products that have a 5 – 10 minute lifespan before being thrown away. READING COMPREHENSION Reading comprehension. summarising the main ideas drawn from more than one paragraph, identifying key details that support the main ideas. retrieve, record and present information from non-fiction. explain and discuss their understanding of what they have read, including through formal presentations and debates, maintaining a focus on the topic BIG 4 PLASTIC POLLUTERS POSTERS BIG 4 Plastic Polluters Posters. A zip file of posters (made by Kids Against Plastic) of the BIG 4 single-use plastic polluters that feature in the top 10 of ocean pollutants. But how easy is it to turn the plastic tide given that it is such a huge problem – is it even possible? We hope it is, and wherever there is hope, there is a chance. PLASTIC CLEVER SCHOOLS helping schools reduce the amount of disposable plastic they use. Kids Against Plastic is committed to helping schools succeed in their efforts to fight single-use plastic and have created all of the resources a school (with pupils leading the way) needs. And they are all freely available to ‘A PLASTIC OCEAN’ Not many people know this, or really appreciate what this means, but thankfully Plastic Oceans are releasing a new feature-length documentary (called ‘A Plastic Ocean’) in early 2017 which highlights the issue of plastic in the oceans, how it’s effecting the environment and why we need #awaveofchange. WHICH MATERIALS BIODEGRADE? Materials.
