BAVARIAN PALACE ADMINISTRATION Main information: Administration in the best tradition The Bavarian Administration of Palaces, Gardens and Lakes, otherwise known as the Bavarian Palace Administration, is one of the most traditional administrative departments in the Free State of Bavaria.Created as part of the administration at the court of the electors and kings, it is today one of the largest public authorities BAVARIAN PALACE ADMINISTRATION The main castle, perched on a steep rocky spur, is surrounded by an imposing ring wall, which like the main gate and Palas (part of the New Building) dates from the 13th century.Outside the ring wall is a spacious bailey, where the Burgmannen originally resided BAVARIAN PALACE ADMINISTRATION Free and reduced entrance. His entry for the year 1471 sheds interesting light on an episode in the castle’s history: Emperor Friedrich the Third had announced his visit and the building, which usually stood empty, had to be made BAVARIAN PALACE ADMINISTRATION The building, but not the interior appointments, which had been stored elsewhere, survived the Second World War almost unscathed. A double chapel typically consists of two chapels with the same ground plan one above the other, which can be connected through an opening in the middle so that the congregation in either chapel can at least hear the service in the other one. BAVARIAN PALACE ADMINISTRATION The lower part of the double chapel, the St Margaret’s Chapel, which looks compressed and sombre by comparison with the Imperial Chapel, can only be entered through a portal from the bailey and is not connected to the latter by stairs. In 1216, which was probably the year the double chapel was completed, Emperor Friedrich II (1194-1250) allocated the St Margaret’s Chapel to the Teutonic Order. EINE DIREKTE VERBINDUNG VOM BURGGARTEN AUF DIE BURGANLAGE GIBT ES DERZEIT LEIDER NICHT. Auch das untere Burgtor am sog. Himmelsberg muss derzeit leider geschlossen bleiben.
